The list of "must haves" can get overwhelming when first trying to figure out what you need to start car camping today, or be ready to start vanlife immediately!

I'm here in this video to tell you what you DON'T need... at least for now, until you've had a chance to figure out what works best for your personal situation and camping/lifestyle!

I hope you find this video helpful, and learn from some of my early lessons, without having to spend the money on them like I did!

That being said, I did do my due diligence in research these items before investing, so if any DO tickle your fancy, I'll go ahead and link them below anyways! (I've certainly learned what works great for one, doesn't always work wonderful for another... or vice versa!)

Thanks for watching, and see ya again soon!

Below are links to everything I discussed in this video. While I can't recommend them as essentials, they are all rated and reviewed well, and if they ARE your cup of tea, well I would never yuck anyone else's yum! Please know the following are associate links, so while they don't cost you a penny more, I do earn a small commission on qualifying purchases (so thanks for clicking and helping to support my channel! 😉)

Rtic Cooler
(disclaimer: when I mentioned bear country camping, I just meant to store my sealed snacks inside my locked vehicle or bear box vs just open inside my vehicle)

larger sized Coleman camping cot:

I also debated between the stick on and in-channel rain guards. I have the stick on ones on my old Jeep and they have held up great the past 3 years but for my Grand Caravan I decided to go with the Weathertec in-channel and really glad I did. Thanks for sharing, this is very helpful!

Very informative!! Food tray? LOL - I use my cooler for dry food - totally agree with you on this one. LOVE my fridge! I've never used my hammock either. I think my biggest regret was my camera purchase. I purchased a Canon G7X Mark II - and I never use it. I don't understand how to use it, so I just keep using my phone. GREAT video, Heather! Thanks for sharing!

Try selling them on offer up

I got a pair of binoculars for my up coming trips for $30 on offer up

Brand new they’re hundreds of dollars

I sold a small Buddha statue also for $30

If you don’t use it and it’s in good condition sell it

Someone will buy it 😊
