How to trap a wither under bedrock 2024 | kill the wither in Minecraft 1.20+

The Wither is one of the most dangerous boss mobs in Minecraft. Though Ender Dragon is the game's first and main boss mob, Wither is much more powerful and lethal.

Guys, the word “bedrock” in the title is referring to the name of the block that the portal is made of, not Bedrock Edition of Minecraft.

Just did it twice on Java 1.20.4. Worked great. I did put obsidian over the top of the portal as well for safety

Works perfectly in Java 1.21.1. (I added some tips below).

Just be sure to place in the correct height and don't block the sides (this was my fatal mistake), otherwise Wither will leak :).

You do not want Wither to leak. He flies very high in The End :(


Make sure to only use the 4 Obsidian blocks as template for the Soul Sand and nothing else, so it does not block Wither.


Edit: aside from my first leak, I already killed Wither 18 other times with no leaks or other issues. This will fuel many Beacons in our Survival Multiplayer. I have 2 Beacons with Regeneration + Resistance I and Strenght II. This way you can facetank the explosion and don't need to worry about food. Just be sure to have equipment with Mending.
