Saṃsāra refers to the cycle of death and rebirth. It is the natural cycle of creation, maintenance, and dissolution that all material things undergo.

Ya know, in Norway they don't kill those who commit murder, they show them extra compassion in order to rehabilitate them back into collective society from whence they came, from the luxury of the murderers own private state facilitated apartments, that are more comfortable and more updated than most American homes. I see no necessity for invoking the classic notion of reincarnation. Of course, everything decays and is incorporated into something else, but those decaying and flourishing bits are all part of the universe. To the extent that there’s an individual consciousness associated with an individual entity, there’s no reason to think the individual consciousness doesn’t eventually dissociate along with the individual entity.

As far as the escape (or failure to escape) from ignorance, anger, and attachment is concerned, we see the effects in this life that we’re living right now. The concept of reincarnation evokes the possibility for unlimited opportunities to get it right, but perhaps we’d be better off not relying on that possibility.
