Okay, I'm at the 21 minute mark of your video. Patti - I completely agree with you - the Giants should trade back in the first round if they can. There is one point worth making about it. When using a draft simulator, it was a whole lot easier to trade back when they had the No. 1 pick. It's much more difficult to trade back from the No. 3 position. In fact, I've been trading back in either the 2nd or 3rd rounds, because the simulation has both QB's being taken with the first 2 picks and nobody is willing to make a decent offer for the Giants' third pick. Granted, it's a simulation and not reality, but if reality ends up resembling the simulation, the Giants may not end up trading back during the first round. Still, taking Travis Hunter as their CB1 with the No. 3 pick isn't such a bad consolation. He fills a position of need quite nicely. As always, thanks for your insights!!!

The last time they traded down they gave up parsons for Toney and Neal. Giants need high end talent. This thought that the perfect QB is in wait next year is fools gold. There’s one. Archie. And you don’t know if he’s coming out after next year or if they’d be in position to draft him. And after the bags over head crowd, Giant fans don’t have the stomach for a rebuild. You need bites at the apple for a franchise QB. Fortunately, you have a former scout for a GM and a coach who’s worked with really great QB’s that can give you a better shot at finding the guy but outside of Hunter, I’m grabbing a QB this year and possibly next year.

Love tuning in for your insights Patti. I'm a 40 year fan and it pains me to recall only Eli Manning, Phil Simms, Kerry Collins as pro bowl caliber QBs. Schoen didn't draft any QBs last draft. We need a QB room that has competition and can handle dodging the Micah Parsons of this division and league. We need QBs not only with mobility and arm talent but SPEED.

We trade for Joe Milton with Milton and Fields we can still draft Sanders or Ward if there at pick 3 if not take Hunter. We can pick Jalen Milroe 2nd round (may have to move back into 1st). This plan will not break the bank or need to trade the farm. Competition in that room will bring out the best the winner starts. The goal is allow your rookie QB to sit and develop without the pressure to start (emergency if needed). Milton and Fields battle for start. My gut says Milton wins. Go Giants!

Patti,

I'm at the 14 minute point of your video but have some thoughts. First, if the Giants let go Azeez Ojulari, they'll probably need an outside linebacker to replace him. They also have Boogie Basham but he's not the best defender and neither is Ojulari, who has an injury history, so, in addition to QB and CB, I'd add OLB to their needs. Second, if Eric Gray can solve his fumbling problems, he might still be a viable backup RB behind Singletary and Tracy, so I'm not so sure they need any more depth at RB. Third, you said the Giants don't really need a WR but I'm not so sure about that. Wan'Dale Robinson is a versatile weapon but he's not a true slot receiver - he's too small of a target. I'd like them to either draft a WR or sign a free agent WR who is a true slot receiver. The only way I can see them not addressing slot receiver is if Theo Johnson develops into a pass receiving weapon in his sophomore year, who can run many of the routes that a slot receiver will run. Lastly, you didn't mention Safety as a need but they really can use someone to fill McKinney's shoes. Nubin has been a nice addition, but they've lost more than they've gained over the years, having lost Love & McKinney. They can really use another player at this position. I'll close by saying that the nice thing about these conversations is everyone has their opinions and reasons for them. Your views are excellent because you always have your facts lined up in support of what you say, so please take what I've said as just my take on the same set of facts. Thanks for listening.

I would add depth in the trenches, offense and defense, in both free agency and the draft. Maybe you don't need to spend the $ for top tier FA's, but get some mid tier guys.

For WR I’d love to see NYG pickup a big target to complement Nabers…. Replacing Slayton. Check out McMillian, Jayden Higgins, Lacy, Thornton from Texas, Roc Taylor…. Lots of 6-2+ guys in the 220 range.

Great points. Really made me think about the coaching staff dynamics the past few years. Everyone, players through FO are pretty inexperienced. They are really hoeing some hard ground that even experienced staffs would struggle with. It is too bad growth is measured the way it is and not how it actually happens. Big results are usually the result of time. Think of smoking ribs low and slow compared to microwaving, but even here there is a balance.

A couple of things...

First regarding quarterback in free agency, I agree that they may go that route and get Justin Fields on a two to three year deal. I don't see them getting Jimmy Galpolo as his play has not just been bad, but he's injury prone as well.

I can see them getting a tackle in free agency for the swing tackle as one of the good things about this current team is your don't have to totally rebuild the offensive line as they can bring back this line and yes I agree with giving Greg Van Rotten a one year deal.

Cornerbank is something I agree they will look to get a veteran for their young secondary.

But with the upcoming draft, if either Shedeur or Cam is not there, I don't see them trading back when they can draft either a Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter or Mason Graham there. To trade back would cost them one or all of those players like how in 2021 they traded back and it cost them Micah Parsons. That's the flip side of trading back. I would only trade back if there is one a player that is worthy of the 3rd overall pick. I do agree that they shouldn't force a quarterback and repeat the mistake of 2019 as they can get a Jalen Milroe or a Jaxson Dart in round 2.

I agree Patricia with trading down and the reasons for doing so. Who do you see as motivated to trade up for that 3rd pick and what would be the return? Thanks, love the Pod!

That’s right😂!! You don’t want to shop hungry. Wow! I’ve never heard that one. Get McCord 2nd. I’m a Syracuse alum. He was so fun to watch this year.

Good stuff Patty! I'm hoping the Giants can get Dante Miller on the field in 2025 and move on from Devin Singletary. We need to see his speed. I like Tyrone Tracy's emergence as a runner and a receiver. He is showing the potential to be a very good running back but I like him more in a shared committee setting, not as the bell cow.

Eric Gray should not be relegated solely to kick returns duties. I think it's a little unfair that he didn't see more action on offense when you consider that all the RBs struggled to hold the ball. Remember Tiki Barber had serious trouble holding onto it. He was almost guaranteed to fumble every game. Tom Coughlin saved his career. Eric Gray is only in his 3rd year. He needs to be coached just like all of the running backs.

Hello Patricia,
Why no mention of Ezuedu? Where do you see his future? Thanks for the Pod & your columns on SI. Best regards.

The G-men need a defense alignment to help on a pass rush and stop the run.

The Giants have a lot of options so it’s imperative they choose correctly….
Joe did handle the cap well. Just have my concern about selection.

I agree that we should trade down and pick up draft capital. Personally I don't wans Ward or Sanders. As far as the defense went, I think better pressure would have helped out considerably. We dropped off somewhere for some reason in our pressures and sacks.

Yeah, backup QB depends on if we draft a QB or not. If we draft one, I'd prefer an older vet who can operate the scheme as intended and mentor the other young offensive players. Tyrod would've been good (I think Andy Dalton is fine). To me, if we aim for those Justin Fields or Zach Wilson types, they're more inclined to get themselves benched because their fundamentals aren't very good.

I think the more important thing is to define what you want from a stopgap/backup given a situation. Sure, Fields offers a way higher ceiling than journeymen vet, and that would be fine if you don't draft a QB. But the probability of Fields challenging the young QB to take his job for the right reasons is low.

Receivers 'when you got Malik Nabers coming back' but if a) teams start to double up on him and b) he gets hurt = we are screwed with Robinson and the fact Daboll does not want to effectively use Slayton (if he returns)

I just don’t see the trade down scenario and here’s why. If one of the 2 Quarterbacks are there at 3 then they take them, especially with their jobs on the line. If they are not there then nobody will want to give much up to trade up. I love the idea of trading and getting more assets for the future but i just don’t see it working out that way personally.
