Just completed mine today. Thanks for the tutorial, I couldn't have done it without you!

A couple of notes that might help others. Getting it through the firewall was painful for me, the gromit was turned slightly from what you see in the video, so the wiring loom completely hid it, it was impossible to see from the engine bay. Access from the inside is pretty decent, if you can't cut it for the engine side try using an all from the interior but be careful not to cut the loom. Also be careful that the gromit in the firewall is correctly placed when you're done, if there is any resistance it will pull the gromit through.

Other than that, you can skip removing the panel beneath the seat belts, no problem to push the wire through. You also don't need to remove rear seats and adjacent panel, pull the weather stripping off along the rear door frame, it releases the inner panel and allows you to place the wire neatly inside.

It's still a big job, give yourself 4 or 5 hours for this one.

This video needs to be shared with anyone that does not have the hybrid or prime trim since they have the battery in the back. Toyota really messed up not adding a power wire to the rear in the other trim packages

I removed the wiper plate for the wire feed, I could not see past the battery well enough and it was easy enough to remove it. The hollow garage sounds made me feel like every pop from the body clips was extra dramatic. And on my '24 I did not have the right size hole to fit the 4 pin connector throught it so I had to enlarge it myself. Overall, this is a super helpful video. Thanks for making and posting it.

Great video. Thank you for all the work to produce it.

I had no idea how much work it is to add the trailer wiring harness. I am definitely going to work this into the price of my new car so hopefully I can get a discount.

Whoa! With all of that, I’d probably install every cable I could think of to avoid another tear down. Antenna, Ethernet, electrical, glass fiber. Or Smurf tube if it would fit.

Wow! Great video. Toyota was not thinking ahead on this one. Removal of so much of the interior???

It should be noted here that RAV4 Hybrid models have their battery under the rear cargo bay floor (right side I believe). So, for these models, it is not necessary to reticulate a 12V wire from the engine bay, through the fire wall and down one side of the car. Therefore any work undertaken to reticulate that wire is not needed.

This does not affect disassembly of the cargo bay and surrounds which must still be carried out during the installation.

Further, it should be understood that the RAV4 is a crossover meaning that it is constructed on a car chassis as opposed to a truck chassis. Cars of course are designed to carry people, trucks on the other hand are designed to haul heavy loads. This has important implications when towing trailers.

Toyota states that a RAV4 Hybrid can tow 1500lbs (and conventional wisdom indicates that trailer weight should comprise 80% of that figure). However, what I've read indicates that the RAV4 can tow a trailer up to 3000lb provided it has onboard brakes fitted (i.e. it is a braked trailer). BTW I'm just repeating what I found. Always check for yourself before proceeding and obviously, this figure would vary by model. Just a useful tidbit of information if you're heading down this path.

For my 2019 Rav4 Hybrid XSE, I recently installed a Tekonsha 118801. My Rav4 has a subwoofer on the left side. The wire for the left turn signal is short by about 12 inches because of the subwoofer housing filled the space. Though it was easier to route the power wire because the hybrid's 12vdc battery is just at the rear cargo right side.

I just installed this on my 2021 Prime SE. It was no where near as hard as this.
I did not have to remove seats. In fact, the side panels only had to be pulled back enough to access the plugs at the tail lights and stick the module on the body. Same amount of work as an aftermarket plug and play option. For what it's worth, the factory harness is much nicer/cleaner than the aftermarket ones. It is, however, more costly.

If anyone has Radio/Head unit issues after install (keeps rebooting every 30 seconds) here is the fix/reset I found in a forum:

Key inside the car
Car/Accessory ON, Engine OFF
Parking Brake ON
Shift into REVERSE for 5+ minutes (car will make a beeping error noise - for hybrid I got error that hybrid system was off and the hybrid reverse noise comes on as well as the other warning noise - it is very loud/annoying)
Shift back into PARK
Start the car (should be reset/working)

Also, initially it had a parking assist disabled warning, but that went away after driving for 2 minutes. The radio did not fix itself (other forum where I got this instructions suggested the above procedure resets the navigation).

There isca 10 amp lighter plug inside the hatch trunk. You must remove interior panel to access passenger side rear light plugs. Pull fuse and make trailer power connection there.

Very nice video, is it the same for the 2020 XSE hybrid model? If so, where can I get the 7 pins connector?

Question on the 4 way to 7 way harness. I had the Toyota OEM wiring harness installed on my prime, and I want a 7 way. Most 4 way to 7 way adapters require running a separate power wire to it (for charging trailer battery and maybe electric brakes) but you didn't do that on your 7 way connector? A little confused? Does the toyota module handle that automatically or do I need to purchase a special 7 way.. or other. Hope you can help. Thank You for the detailed video !!
