Let's be honest: Noone would have watched the show without having watched Breaking Bad before. It's really boring in my opinion.

An episode’s conflict builds and builds without payoff until maybe four or five episodes later. Meaning you have to sit through five hours of intelligent buildup until you can stop watching for the night with a sense of satisfaction. Unlike breaking bad which was so clever, being simultaneously subtle and extreme with its content and writing. Saul offers buildup. Only buildup. Not enough to earn equal appraisal.

I wish the pacing of the show was better, and although being a lawyer show, it focuses less and less of that throughout the show. I also wish there was more action in the show

I love Better call Saul but I wouldn't compare it to Breaking Bad. It is just a character story, very few action. The slow pacing is very unique, it gives so much room to get a feeling for the unsuccessful life of Jimmy, to develop the characters and the complex social relationships. I never expected a big story from the show, it is a very detailed sitcom drama and I enjoy it.

mike it's a charicature of himself dude it's the full package despite his age. yeah i know he supposed to be a lot younger but the actor is old so breaks the illusion plus there are various mike moments where dude its totally op even tho he was only a cop not even special forces or something just a cop. There sub plots that were kinda of interesting at time but not close to breaking bad that series got me on the edge of my seat. Not my cup of tea but i guess it was a fun ride

Hey Major Grin, have you ever heard or seen of the show Banshee? It's much more crazy action oriented but the story is also quite compelling. Would love to hear your opinion on it

i wonder how much they regret calling the show "Better Call Saul" because at this point it's a non sequitur, it's evocative with how they ended the first season but they backtracked that to support a 4+ season show so they retcon that final moment so he doesn't have to be the criminal lawyer Saul for years, the show being about criminal lawyer Saul would also mean having to focus more on the courtroom aspect and dealing with lots of cases which the showrunners from what I recall want to avoid.

I like Saul as a character too, but he's flat. So a show about him being irredeemable all the time becomes plot-heavy instead of character-heavy. Also, the show can't really get into murder as much because so much of the crime is white collar and hard to follow. All I know about Sandpiper is the old folks home was embezzling pensions. It's not quite as terrifying as cartel business, which this show has trouble balancing. Still, Jimmy McGill is far better as a prequel character than Han Erenreich.

I agree with most of what you said except I found Breaking Bad hard to rewatch because it was too tense and too depressing. It's like trying to rewatch Black Mirror or Ex Machina where I have to be in a certain mood to pay that much attention.
