After finishing our second year of using Saxon Math I felt that it was time for a review. See what grades 1 through 3 look like inside, how they work and what the manipulative kit looks like.

This is the absolute best review I have seen on K-3 math! Thank you! It really helps to get an idea of how the curriculum flows. May I ask how long each lesson typically takes? And how much of that is teaching time from the parent versus independent student work? Thank again for providing such an in-depth look! ❤

Thank you for this review. It was really helpful in my decision to purchase Saxon Math 2. I'm curious what adaptations (if any) you made for the temperature activities. Do you have any tips or tricks for teaching Celsius?

My four and a half year old counts over 1000 and then backwards, is able to add and subtract, and is sometimes adding and subtracting in his head. What level would you recommend? He seems to grasp math concepts really quickly so I want to challenge him but I don’t want to move too far ahead and realize we missed some of the foundational concepts.

Hi I wanted to ask you if you feel Saxon 1 moves slow enough for a kindergartner? He recognizes numbers up to 10 knows some shapes. I just wasn't sure if it moves slow enough. Thank you

This was helpful. I was wondering if print date on the math matters? Is there revisions of the math and if so is it a big change?
I got saxon math 3 teachers book for free so i was gonna buy the work books and meeting book but i noticed it was printed in the 90s. Its over 20 years old. My husband said its obsolete "no way the schools are teaching that old of math". Kinda feeling dumb not thinking about how old the curriculum is that i gathered up for my kids.

Would a person be able to successfully teach these concepts with out the teachers guide or is it absolutely necessary.

Do you know if the K-3 aligns with John Saxons vision?

Thank you for this. I'm a bit conflicted on what levels to order. My rising 2nd grader scored high on the placement test and it's saying I should order Saxon 3. However, this is our first year homeschooling and I want to make sure we don't get gaps if we move him ahead. My rising 4th grader scored low on her placement test and I read we should still order 5/4 for her. I wonder if we should get level 3 for her. What do you think?
