Featuring a 25.4mm (1") and 10mm mirrored cube of 99.95% pure rhenium metal

Nearly the same in every way as platinum, rhenium is rarer but less expensive owing to smaller demand. Like the other platinum group metals, this metal is staunchly resistant to oxidation or chemical attack of any kind.

One key distinction between it and platinum is that it is much harder (scratch resistant) so few jewelers would take on the thankless task of turning it into wearable bling. Luckily, that hardness and inertness makes it easy to polish and, oh my, how very reflective these bad boys are when turned into mirrors!

According to the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, arguably the most authoritative reference on these subjects, rhenium is the rarest stable metal found in the earth's crust at just 0.7 parts per billion making it about twice as rare as iridium and osmium and over five times rarer than gold!

Gleaming white and perfectly made, these rhenium cubes are the only (reasonably) priced density cubes that are heavier than tungsten or gold at a satisfyingly hefty 20.5 grams each, which is just shy of its 21g theoretical density.

Rhenium is commonly used in military and aerospace industries due to its extreme hardness and when alloyed with nickel it makes a superalloy. This superalloy is used extensively in turbine blades, exhaust nozzles of jet engines, and even rocketship engines. Currently, rhenium is around $1200 per lbs, and considering it is so much rarer than platinum and palladium this is a bargain in retrospect (that is per pound, not troy ounce). Rhenium as recently as 2008 was almost $5000 lbs, so the potential for this metal's value to skyrocket again is very real. Our cubes are priced based on the extremely challenging and labor-intensive mechanism required to make them into perfect 10mm and 25.4mm mirrored polished cubes.

All of these PGM's are such beautiful metals ( especially Osmium, Rhenium, and Halfnium ). Wrestling with the thought of buying some of them to merely be artwork to gaze at on my desk vs. the cost of merely having such pricey paperweights only for show. But thank you for sharing a nice video your pretty paperweights with us !

Are you going to be doing any more rhenium bars? Rhodium would be out of the question at 20K an oz

How much would this cost in September 2024? Obviously it’s higher than when this video was posted

Does the 1 ounce rhenium bar contain any of the radioactive 187 isotopes or is it completely stable with the 185 rh isotope

The text on that doesn’t look perfectly centered. That would be upsetting to receive
