The X-Men are a superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, the team first appeared in The X-Men #1 (September 1963). Although initially canceled in 1970 due to low sales, following its 1975 revival and subsequent direction under writer Chris Claremont, it became one of Marvel's most recognizable and successful franchises. They have appeared in numerous books, television shows, 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, and video games. The X-Men title may refer to the superhero team itself, the eponymous comic series, or the broader franchise including various solo titles and team books such as the New Mutants, Excalibur, and X-Force.

In the Marvel Universe, mutants are humans who are born with a genetic trait called the X-gene which grants them natural superhuman abilities, generally manifesting during puberty. Due to their differences from the majority of humanity, mutants are subject to prejudice and discrimination; many X-Men stories feature social commentary on bigotry, justice, and other political themes. The X-Men have fought against a variety of enemies, including villainous mutants, human bigots, supervillains, mystical threats, extraterrestrials, and malevolent artificial intelligence. In most iterations of the team, they are led by their founder Charles "Professor X" Xavier, a powerful telepath who runs a school for mutant children out of his mansion in Westchester, New York, which secretly is also the headquarters of the X-Men. Their stories have frequently involved Magneto, a powerful mutant with control over magnetic fields, who is depicted as an old friend of and foil to Xavier, variously acting as an adversary or as an ally.

Early X-Men issues introduced the original team composed of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, and Iceman, along with their archenemy Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants featuring Mastermind, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Toad. The comic focused on a common human theme of good versus evil and later included storylines and themes about prejudice and racism, all of which have persisted throughout the series in one form or another. The evil side in the fight was shown in human form and under some sympathetic beginnings via Magneto, a character who was later revealed to have survived Nazi concentration camps only to pursue a hatred for normal humanity. His key followers, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, were Romani. Only one new member of the X-Men was added, Mimic/Calvin Rankin, but soon left due to his temporary loss of power.

The title lagged in sales behind Marvel's other comic franchises. In 1969, writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Neal Adams rejuvenated the comic book and gave regular roles to two recently introduced characters: Alex "Havok" Summers (Cyclops' brother, who had been introduced by Roy Thomas before Adams began work on the comic) and Lorna Dane, later called Polaris (created by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko). However, these later X-Men issues failed to attract sales and Marvel stopped producing new stories with issue #66 (March 1970), later reprinting a number of the older comics as issues #67–93.

The early iron man suits were a thing of beauty. Practical effects are still supreme

So basically it’s fun for a bit, but once he’s drenched in sweat underneath and exhausted from lugging it around and dealing with reduced flexibility, it’s impossible to be an effective actor. Fair enough, action movie actors spend all day on their feet and moving around, imagine working on your feet all day long while wearing what is halfway between a Halloween costume and a straight jacket 😂

Damn that had to be a heartbreaking realization, like “yeah I can be the best iron man, but if I’m moving like Batman 89 it is just always gonna look funny” type stuff

I hear him, practical suits can impede some actors depending on their style and such. Christian Bale stated the Batman Begins suit gave him headaches like crazy.
But I am so exhausted from the mocap-only movement.
As bad as I saw the Halo show was, I appreciated the practical suits. There’s a material there that you’re interacting with that you can feel in the actors movements and facial expressions.

So that's why in the first movie the suit looks so good

I think the physical struggle of being in the suit adds to the acting. I know the hydraulics system in the suit would probably be flawless but it adds to emersion to actually feel iron man move the suit with his body the same way we would.

At the end of the day Iron Man is a regular dude and so it would make sense for him to struggle sometimes to use the suit physically
