Bangladesh: Did BNP play liberal to orchestrate Hasina's ouster? | Geeta's World, Ep 100

Bangladesh is facing unrest, with ensuring peace being the foremost challenge. While it was expected that violence would cease after Sheikh Hasina's resignation, the situation has worsened, particularly with escalating atrocities against Bangladeshi Hindus.

Why is the caretaker government under Mohammed Yunus letting people run amok and not ensuring communal harmony?

Before her exit, Sheikh Hasina claimed that "conspiracies" were being plotted to topple her government. She alleged that the US intended to acquire St Martin's Island to build a military base in exchange for the BNP's electoral victory.

Is it true that this island influenced how the US sought to steer Bangladesh's political landscape? Given that both the US and China believe the BNP would align more closely with them, which superpower is getting its calculations wrong?

In this episode of Geeta's World, our host, Anna Priyadarshini, and the foreign affairs editor at India Today, TV Today Network, Geeta Mohan, discuss!

Thank you Geeta and Anna for this great episode. I am from Bangladesh and I have lots of friends in India. I would like to point out some issues regarding india-bangladesh relationship in recent days what geeta forgot to mention. For the last 15 years, there were no democracy and human rights in Bangladesh under Hasina regime. India always supported hasina boldly in this heinous crime by knowing the truth, as a friend India should make relation with Bangladesh not with Awami league. Bangladeshi people watched the Indian silence to support to autocratic hasina since 15 years. Now, people know the truth and boycotting india because of their foreign policy. All Indian establishment has failed in BD. Now hasina blaming USA and also India is mentioning PAK, CHina, USA for ousting hasina. India should blame themselves. If USA and China wanted to oust hasina, they could done it before 2024 election. During 2023, before election, oppostion hold big rally and protest, but mass people didnt join. In 2024, july, why mass people joined the protest? It's not USA who brought the people in road, It's sheikh hasina who killed thousand students in Bangladesh. India should take lessons and rethink about their neighbour policy. Thanks

India should make relation with Bangladesh not with Awami league. All the Indian establishment has failed in Bangladesh. Think twice about your foreign policy and reform it. The movement was led by students and mass people joined, why blaming Usa, pak, china etc? If they could done it, they would have done it before 2024 election. At that time opposition protested and held rallies but mass people not participated. Its hasina who killed thousand students in july as a result mass people got angry and joined the movement, simple.

Hasina is a pathological liar. We know her very well but you may not. When she left, more than 200 people died. Out of 200+ only 2 were hindus. One was a police officer who died along with 12 muslim polices at a police station and another one was a local Awaomi league leader who killed students during the protest. Therefore, I can assure that it was not a communal unrest. Now It's not happening. It happened on the 5th and 6th of August just after Hasina left the country. Please do talk with more Bangladeshis before saying anything

BNP was always a liberal Democratic Party. They are the party to restore multiparty democracy after Mijib established single party fascist rule.

BNP allied with Jamat only to fight Awami league. otherwise they were alone and their agendas are different. BNP is the strongest Democratic Party in Bangladesh. BNP allowed Awami league to come back to politics and didn't try to oppress them. once again Awami league went after eliminating the opposition to establish a single party fascist rule.

So sooner India stops spreading these falsehood against BNP is better for India too,

Still you can influence Bangladesh, if your Govt. becomes the friend of Bangladeshi people rather any pary person. We have so many things to share with each other and culturally we are the closest but the Chinese.
Hope for a much better Indo-Bangla relationship (win-win) from 🇧🇩

In one sentence : Dhaka will influence Dhaka now. Chittagong will influence Dhaka now. Khulna, Sylhet, Rajshahi will influence Dhaka now.

The autocracy of Hasina was supported for too long by India which claims itself to be democracy , people of Bangladesh could not vote to elect their representatives during the last fifteen years , Hasina was seen as the surrogate of India .

Washington Post has reported that Indian diplomats and intelligence officials had lobbied Washington to scale down its pressure on the Hasina regime. And here is Geeta Mohan peddling Awami League talking points, which are also the go-to points for the Indian establishment. Geeta Mohan has no idea what is happening in Bangladesh, nor can she predict what will happen in Bangladesh.

I am reasonably sure that India would have sounded Sheikh Hasina at some stage about the need to be more responsive to Opposition concerns.
