The street leading to Saigon Zoo is a perfect example of the typical streets in downtown Saigon up till the year 2000, now most streets have lost the old character because people chopped down big trees for expansion and building concrete blocks.
All the small streets used to have 2 row of tall tree lines, the wider streets had 4 rows of tree lines, you couldn't even see the sunlight, now you see plenty of sunlight and no trees. The French planted mostly tamarind trees in downtown Saigon, plenty of tamarind dropped on the sidewalks. Things changed drastically for a decade or two. Very nice and peaceful walk!

Vietnam has a very well-established metro system. The subway system is really elaborate. I guess it must have taken them a lot of year to complete that.

Actually that place where the marriott building is at its called Grand Marina Ba Son. Golden river is down the road. A cool place to visit is The Amazing Bay a massive water park in Bien Hoa near district 9 just crossing the Dong Nai river. Also in this park is the paradise beach. Another nice attraction is the golden dragon water puppet theater in district 1. A cool trip would be The saigon water bus in district 1 and it is 15, 000 dong best taken at dusk or you have the option to take the Saigon River Buffet Dinner Cruise for a higher price, both are great.
