In this video I make a mallet from some scrap wood I had Lying about the place, A very old piece of beech from an old leg vice and some locally sourced Irish Ash.
A maple mallet was the first project I ever made and a great first project for anyone looking to being their woodwork journey.
Hope you enjoy.

It’s so fun making your own tools, cause even if it turns out a little ugly or a little bit off, you made it yourself and that makes you want to use that tool more. It’s one of a kind, and will probably last longer than a store-bought thing. If nothing else, it for sure has more character!

I'm really happy you showed off your first version of a mallet as well to let us know that you don't have to start off brilliantly to get into woodworking

It's a simple chamfer, but it renders the mallet quite unbreakable.

Nice work Eoin, are you saying you're only at this 2 years? You're a fast learner, I'm a carpenter builder for 25 and I'll tell you what, you do nice stuff, I like how when you were cleaning up the edge with the chessel you lost a bit off the end, you could've edited it out and we'd be none the wiser, people often ask me for woodworking tips I tell them to just have a go, it's fun, wood is very forgiving, it's ok to make a mistake it's how we get better at anything.. well done I enjoy your videos.

Was just commenting to Jimmy Diresta that the maker community is vast and ageless and thanks to the Internet, showing lots of new growth and interest in the crafts. So much information available and many thankful for folks like him and you.

I just found your channel not too long ago, the way you work I would have sworn you were born with a chisel in your hand, incredible stuff for two years in

Bril!. Used to love watching my Dad use old World hand tools for shaping timber! He wasn't trained but just had the 'touch'. Made some amazing things. Love these vis!. Nuff said 🙂

My favorite repeat project every once in a while are marking guages, I've made 7 those far and making them with wedges is pretty fun because it's good practices with funny mortises and stuff, I'm 18 now, and have been hand tool woodworking since 2019! By now I think I've made about 6 or 7

Thank you for your videos. I grew up woodworking but not like this. I believe I do like all the hand tool woodwork better!
