Chances are those marks on the consoles are from the bubble wrap. They’ve probably been boxed up for a long time and a chemical reaction has occured between the plastic and the packaging. A similar thing will happen if you wrap your controllers cable around the controller. Over time the wires silicone coating will eat into the plastic.

I repair and refurbish computers for a living. What these fellas at Gamestop are doing is testing the consoles a couple of minutes and selling them. I hope they are REALLY cheap, because they are not putting work on it at all. I get notebooks and desktops from several brands. All of them get tested, BIOS updates and then disassembled, cleaned, air dusted, and thermal paste is replaced. Don´t expect less.

Quality control at these companies is completely over, it's like they just grab a bunch of random crap and dump it in a box and ship it out..

GameStop is a stand up, reputable company for ALL gaming needs both modern AND retro and would not in under ANY circumstances be so careless with any refurbishment job. I recommend you all not give into this slander and use them for ALL gaming and pop culture geek item needs and invest into them long term on the stock market and NOT short them. PS. I am NOT chair #7 on the board of directors and have NOT been so for the last 10 years and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE own $75 Million in shares. I don't know what else people expect from a 9 year old console, there's only so much they can do with the outside case unless they put a new aftermarket one on and raise the price.

Probably better off buying off ebay. A week ago I got a PS3 Slim off ebay for $80+$15 Shipping and it was in fairly good condition. I dont get why they insist on using magic eraser for everything. Just spray a microfiber cloth with some non-residue cleaning solution and wipe it down.

Fun fact about GameStop: they are surprisingly picky about what you bring them with older consoles at least. I don’t think they can give you a 3rd party controller because I doubt they’d accept a 3rd party controller with a console.
