I adore garter snakes, and they're very misunderstood little noodles. So I'm glad they're at the top of the list!

I've always had pet snakes, my favorite snake/the coolest snake I ever owned was a garter snake my dogs almost killed and I nursed back to health. When I lived in Ohio my sister's dogs got ahold of a garter snake and about killed it while I was at school. When I came home my brother in-law told me about it, so I went out and found it to make sure it was alright. Over the next 3 or so months I nursed it back to health, I'm honestly surprised it didn't die during that time. It was so chill and friendly that I would put it in my jackets open breast pocket while I would walk around with my friends, I would even take it to school in that pocket occasionally, it loved going out. It would just hang out and occasionally pop its head out of the pocket to look around. Once it was mostly healed I made the coolest tank ever for it, I used a lot of tree bark, I even made it a burrow in the ground out of bark, that was squirmys favorite spot. I also found a huge bowl shaped rock and used it as a water dish, I always kept a ton of live fish in it, squirmy would sit on the edge of the water and strike at the fish like a cobra. That snake acted like a dog, when I would take it to the park with my friends I would sit it down, it would explore but would always stay close and would come back to me if I left it alone for too long, it acted like it didn't want me to leave it behind. By time he was healed winter rolled around so I couldn't release it and by time spring rolled around it wouldn't survive on its own in the wild anymore. I miss that snake and think about it everyday to this day... To anyone who read my long ass comment, sorry for the novel and thank you for reading it.

"we're not gonna talk about axolotls because they are amphibians and this is a reptile video" he says after talking about frogs.

One of my favourite examples of cohabiting was on a serpadesign video where he designed a Chinese water dragon tank that had turtles aswell. that combination fascinated me. Another great video man!

I think the coolest cohab I've ever seen is The Biodude, he has an enclosure with corn snakes, American green treefrogs, and green anoles.

I came here to say that you’re one of the only YouTubers who’s content is relevant years later. I watch your videos when they first come out and then come back years later to rewatch when I am actually ready to do some research on the next reptile I want! Not a lot of YouTubers content holds it’s value like yours does! I appreciate you and your content, old and new 😊

I'm so happy you had garters as #1! They are awesome and one of my favourites😍! I've got 9 garters from 3 species that I co-hab (each species in their own enclosure, of course). They're so active, so much fun to feed and interact with.... although the valley garters are a a bit of a handful and like to helicopter their tail when they musk. It gets everywhere.

I've got 10 or so garter snakes living in a woodpile in my back yard. I think it's really cool to come outside and spot them basking out on one of the logs.

awesome video! I'm on a Wickens Wicked Reptiles binge. we have 'cohabitated' our iguana for the past 12 years we've had him. he is currently 4.5 feet from snout to tail. he will free roam indoors with 2 cats. sometimes they lay together and the cats will groom him. in the spring/summer he will go outdoors in a cage with ducks/ducklings. never had issues him. he even has snuggled in bed with the humans! I think a lot has to do with the animal itself and how they are raised/treated, not just the species.

Yes!!! I love that you put mourning geckos in here! I will have a video on them tomorrow because I’m getting my first pair! I love garter snakes too! I caught one while fishing yesterday!

The problem with cohabbing leopard geckos is that they can live together just fine for years and then one takes a chunk out of the other. Had this happen twice.

Garters were my gateway into reptiles as a whole. I recently found out I can legally keep and breed checkered garter snakes in my state without a license or permit. My first ever genuine pet snake was an albino checkered garter snake and honestly they are my favorite species of all of the garters. I am quite excited to get back into them.

In my high school’s courtyard there’s a pond with some carp/goldfish/koi and this one turtle. Always a treat to catch a glimpse of him.

In Florida, the green anoles aren’t pests or anything because they’re actually pretty hard to find, as the Cuban brown anoles are out competing them.

So happy you mentioned garters! I have a 'bonded' pair of male eastern garters. Definitely with some attention to detail and care to make sure they get along, they are wonderful pets. Mine are very interactive and curious. There are many studies done that highlight their strange social behaviours, super interesting to learn about. I love my two boys, they're very different in personality, but I think they're super fun to learn about.

I have a yard full of green anoles here in Dallas, Tx…I love watching them play and chase each other!

I do have an accidental case of cohabitation that has been working really well for almost a year. I had a big tank 120x120x60cm with my crocodile skink. He turned out to be an absolute master of disguise and I managed to not see him for almost half a year after which I was positive that it must have escaped somehow, so after mourning the loss I decided to get green anoles in the enclosure. And a few months later I suddenly see the skink walking around in the terrarium. By this time they had been together for some time already. Initially I wanted to separate the species but after some time I found they actually go quite well together. Anoles are day active, arboreal and hide out on the plant leaves at night while the skink is active at dusk and dawn, terrestrial and to heavy to climb on the leaves. This combined with the size and lush bioactive setup means they can easily avoid each other if they want.
