26 years of paying and I owe more then I ever borrowed. At the very least just drop the interest rate to zero and give us a fair shot.

I bet if they stopped sending money overseas, they could easily have enough to pay off all the student debt as well as give everyone a tax refund. lol.

My neighbor has been on SSDI (from taxed work credits) for over 10 years. The U.S. Dept of education has denied their discharge request 6 times saying they (Dept of Ed) dont consider the persons condition disabling by their paperwork standards.
This person receives $1600 a month, is denied even food assistance and is being threatened with the Dept of Ed garnishing their SSDI for 25% unless they start paying nearly $300 a month. People on welfare and illegals are treated better than we treat those who worked and paid into the system but retired or became disabled

If the government can bail out large corporations, banks and airlines why can’t it help out the people that student debt is crushing?

It’s your loan, your debt, your responsibility to pay it off. Universities will never stop handing out loans, so there’s no point.

Public higher education should be virtually free like it is in Europe and elsewhere
