The leaders of China and India have held their first direct meeting for five years, after ending a long-running border dispute. President Xi Jinping met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a summit of the BRICS group of nations in Russia. Relations between the two countries had been frosty, since troops from both sides were killed in a clash in the Himalayan region of Ladakh in 2020. The BRICS organisation, which originally centred on China, India and Russia, also includes six other emerging economies. We spoke to Rorry Daniels from the Asia Society Policy Institute.

"Thanks to the five blind eyes... India and China have signed a border agreement, proving that the West cannot dictate terms to India. Interestingly, even a relatively insignificant country like Canada, with limited global influence, is attempting to threaten India, and these five blind eyes are cautioning India. However, they should remember that India has the power to tip the scales in any direction. So, beware of meddling with India... this century belongs to India. The global power dynamic is shifting from the West to Asia, and the West needs to accept this new reality." 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

DW is obsessed with BRICS summit. Even Ukraine does not get this focus from DW.

From what the Indian foreign minister said, it seems that China has given up some control of the border areas. The border where the Indian-Chinese joint patrol has been reinstated to the one before 2020 clashes.

Importantly the surprising fact is that not even single colonisers or looting country is not a member in BRICS. A good sign

India should pursue independent foreign policy according to their interests.

Everyone is talking about how the power is shifting from west to east, but all i see is drama while the upper class profit from us. It's the same all the way around the world. We should instead be shifting/pulling the power from the top to the bottom, the world governing bodies are in dire need of a spring cleaning, it's about time us 'little' people had a say in how things are run.

Oh, Putin is going to get give up a lot to entice India and China to put their economy on the line for russia. Russia doesn't really have anything to lose, not as much as India and China. What can russia off them to be worth wild is the main part of the negotiations. land/oil/resources, and the deal breaker would have to be Iran/NK.

India finally realizes that a 5 time smaller economy India can never beat a 5 times bigger economy China. In war, it is all about economics. How much money can you spare to build 1 missiles, 1 drones etc .... which is why *India's Foreign Minister Jaishankar, in his exact words and quotes, " China is a bigger economy than India and we cannot pick a fight with a bigger economy."* 😅🤣😂World Bank 2023 states that China's GDP = 17.79 trillion dollars whereas India 3.55 trillion dollars. China 's economy is 5 times bigger than India.
