The thing I liked most, about shimano launching 105 di2. Was that I got ultegra 11 speed on my new bike. At a hugely discounted price 👌

Sensah, LTwoo and all the other Chinese brands are just waiting to take over. 🎉😂

It stopped being "for the people" after r7000

Its not a groupset of the people because of the price. 900 quid for mechanical??? The big players are becoming so out of touch with working people so is gcn. I wont bother eating for a month but ill have an extra cog!!!

Imma fucking loving having a superfast superlightweight rim brake bike. No headaches, just fun. Remember that GCN?

And they need to produce a rim brake version for the people as well 🤩

Tiagra 10 speed is £500 cheaper than 105 mechanical. This is the groupset of the people.

Shimano is not doing it to do us a favor.
It is simply doing it because its overall sales have dropped *30%* in 2023. And next year it will be worst because of the sale cycle in the bike industry. (Order made 6 month+ prior to model year.)
People don't buy 5k+ road bikes anymore.
Shimano didn't have OEM product to offer for entry level race bike.
Manufacturers demanded 105 mechanical.
Shimano had no choice.

I'm rather going to buy some neat new-old-stock parts of the very first 105 generation (1050 and 1055) for my next bike. Looks far better, and 1055 had some slightly aero-optimized shapes, e.g. for the derailleur cage, the front derailleur, and the downtube shifter 😊.

Trouble is you can still buy the 11spd for so cheap. Unless you’re racing or just want the latest thing there’s really not a noticeable difference between 11 and 12 spd and the R7000 group is eipically good.

Honestly to me it seems the R7000 is a bit of a problem for Shimano because for 95% of road cyclists there’s no reason to upsell from it. Going from 8 to 11 spd gets you a 37% increase in the number of gears, you notice that. 11 to 12 is a 9% increase… you don’t notice that.

Over the last 5 or so years I’ve had mixed 11 and 12 speed 2 and 1x setups on road, gravel and MTB bikes… you just do not notice it unless you’re A/B testing

I hope SRAM releases 12speed mechanical as well.

my di2 gave up its ghost after one year, never happened to any mechanical group I ever owned

So, if you get a peleton of shimano 105 Di2 together, does one signal interfere with another bike's electronic shifting?

Its only the groupset of the people because it cost like a Ultegra/Dura ace groupset did a couple of years ago and the price for mid/high tier is insane. I got 105 on my new bike that cost 4k. I had Sram red Etap on my previous bike and i can say that 105 mechanical is still low tier. I would never get a bike with 105 if i could choose.

Will this setup be available on a aero bike?
