Every phone with software locks should automatically get a repairability score of 0

I'd really love to see your opinions on some of Sony's phones, I feel they are unfortunately the only ones left who actually innovate and they look really appealing as they have OS and kernel device trees available freely. They're kind of hard to get in Australia as they kinda flopped but I feel like it might actually be worth it to import

I think legislation is the only way to save us from losing ownership of our devices.

It's not a flagship, but I just picked up the Samsung XCover 6 Pro, which has a replaceable battery, dual SIM, and a micro SD card slot. It was designed for enterprise, so I assume the components aren't paired to the board, but don't know for certain; would you consider giving it a look? It's a longshot, but I'm hoping that if it picks up enough steam on the consumer market, Samsung and other manufacturers might start to have second thoughts about gluing everything together.

Nice roundup of the major 2022 releases of phones.
I'd agree with you in that, if I was a phone technician, I'd happily repair a Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel, whilst probably encouraging even the home user to repair their Fairphone 4. The Nothing Phone, however, is totally different, and I'd have to warn the customer of possible damage.
As for Apple's offerings, I'd flat out refuse to work on an iPhone 14/14 Pro (or even a 13/13 Pro or 12/12 Pro) and send the customer to Apple.

Oh, and I also like that you ask for a sub AFTER the video and not before I have seen anything from you, like many others do. Thumbs up for this.

I was amazed by the repairability of my Ulefone Power Armor 13. Modular internal design, held together with screws, sealed with a reusable rubber gasket and no glue or software locks to be found.
Would really like to see your professional repair analysis on this phone since I didn't dare to take it further apart than to remove the back panel to clean the speaker mesh.

1:43 If it wasn't for this, the iPhone would have been one of the most repairable iPhones on the market.

I still use my 4 year old mate 20 pro. Had a screen and battery replacement done 3rd party as both died screen went green and battery stopped holding charge. No software locks on either

The iPhone is definitely worse, having to interact with customer services to "unlock" a replacement screen, I love apple products but dumb 'features' like this keep me away

The least repairable phone of 2022 is definitely the Nothing phone

Anyone else remember the old Androids that were easy to open? The back used to just come off.

While the EU law regarding USB-C is a step in the right direction, the laws need to be more stringent regarding right to repair.

Samsung has given a rebuttal to Fairphone with the Xcover 6 pro (removable plastic back, battery that pops out and all the same size phillips head screws) and with an added middle finger, has a headphone jack.

If it had an S pen and IR blaster it'd be my dream phone.

Can't get it from mymobile yet though and Kogan's third party seller has it for $100 AUD more than the other places.

From my experience, Xiaomi is up there as well when it comes to repairability, the batteries have pull tabs unlike samsung and the bootloader can be unlocked without having a warning on every bootup

This ranking is MUCH MORE reliable than the iFixit repairability score
