Today, a woman ordered three milkshakes from Culvers and promised me a tip of $5.50 which would have raised the total pay to $7.40. After I waited in line, collected the milkshakes, put the milkshakes in my cooler to keep them cold, and then delivered them to her door, making sure to place them away from where her door swings open--she canceled the tip. So I received $2 from Uber for 30 minutes of my time, plus gas. Customer service did NOT give me the promised pay, instead they said the customer has the right to take back the tip if they want to.

Binding estimate. It is unlawful to offer a payment and not pay in full upon that contract's completition. It is fraud.

Tip baiting has gotten more popular and very unfair, why Uber allows this is beyond me, you should not allow customers to change tip no matter what, this happened to me many times already and the best they come up with is nothing, except they would look into it. The people that tip bait should not be allowed to order from these platforms for their dishonesty.

In my city they removed tipping option. Instead they made tipping a barely visible option after a purchase so 90% of customers don’t tip anymore. Basically almost none of the orders I do have tips anymore. Not a single driver I know is happy about this….

Just got tip baited tonight, spent 34 minutes on the phone with support, got transferred 5 times and then they hung up on me. I never once got irate, raised my voice or insulted them in any way.

I didn’t know I could call customer service to get the tip reapplied, I had this happen to me yesterday, the customer completely took back the tip for no reason at all! I was so pissed off!

Last time I contacted support over tip baiting they pretended like it was perfectly normal and there was nothing they could do about it. Previously they would ban the customer from my account.

Tipping should never be considered part of the trip, it is a bonus for post trip.

Uber eats shouldjust take the tip optional removed so they can just avoid all of us calling them after we get Tip batted

I don't often get tip baited, but It happened to me yesterday. I took a stacked order that was going to the same customer. I was offered $19.04. The base pay was $6.04. And I never got the $13 tip. I didn't call Uber support because last time I did, I was told that the customer has the option of removing the tip. So they basically said F you.

They haven’t removed this garbage because today on my 1st Uber delivery I was tip bated twice 😖 I accepted what looked like a good offer and delivered all three deliveries without any issues or problems. Yet, I got tipped bated and will never drive for Uber or instacart again ever 😖 I can’t afford being scammed and screwed by ungrateful customers who have no respect what us drivers spend and go through to make our money 😖 if you can’t afford for delivery! Don’t have it delivered because you’re pissing drivers off 😖 I’m so angry because I’m doing school and trying to make a decent amount for myself to get through my day, or month! I would rather get a regular job than waist my money, time, labor and gas ETC. I’m done with companies allowing and favoring customers disrespecting and ripping off the drivers 😖

Don't forget to call and request to have that tip baiter blocked from you.

Iv done the same thing before. Also if said delivery correlates with anything that made you feel unsafe, you can also block the customer. Last time it happened to me it was on a pin code delivery, & the customer made me wait outside at night with no lights. I wasn’t going to void the pin, & leave the order without the delivery code for the customer to claim it was not delivered. They eventually came out to collect their order, & provided the delivery code as the 8 minute timer was about to expire. They proceeded to remove the gratuity. I was able to recoup the gratuity, & block the customer for concerns of my safety. Also always want to try to get all the substitutions on shoppers.
On UE the customer gratuity is usually % based, unless they adjust it to a fixed figure. So when the subtotal decreases on a shopper so will the gratuity.

LOL, I rolled my eyes at her canned response and saw that you were doing the same thing. That is ludicrous, that people can change what they tip. It's crazy that they would even have that to begin with.

It would make them more competitive if they need drivers because I used DD as a first choice because I don’t trust the amounts Uber shows.

They are not removing tip dating, and they will not be able to prevent it. It just happened to me two hours ago, delivered a large Chick-fil-A order and the customer never tipped, customer support of course said too bad and suck it up. They’re not doing anything about it.

1st lady told me it’s not mandatory for the customer to tip. I asked to speak to the supervisor and got my money. But she said it was a one time courtesy so I don’t know if that’s gonna work every time.

I swear the "support" tries to make it as annoying as possible by rambling on in slightly intelligible broken English! With that being said, thanks for letting us know. I just got burnt for $6 (the full bid amount) on a delivery that went smoothly. Which leads me to believe that was their intent when they placed the order.

I am sure you are the same as I am. There is no reason for any of these niceties customer support has with us. This is a business business to business relationship and should be kept in a business to business conversation. We do not need to hear how unfortunate our situation is or how difficult it is because we're been put in this situation.all we need is for you to acknowledge the problem and work to correct it. Nothing else. If anything it will improve their completion time by not wasting our time with the added statements that are unnecessary.

NYC, as of now market there’s no tip baiting. Simply because we can’t tell here if we’re gonna get a tip or not. I miss the days when I could fight and get my tips. Cause I always did alter learning how to fight it thru gig content creators. That being said. It’s a shit show here now. The initial huge victory not all it’s cracked up to be. But thanks as always Joe for putting out some good stuff!
