Teenage Engineering EP-1320 Medieval Unboxing & 1st Beat

This is my unboxing and first attempt at making a beat with the Teenage Engineering EP-1320. I'm here to give an honest first experience, not biased by any relationship with the brand. The device feels sturdy, and the packaging is nice. But, so far, it's difficult to get used to making music with. Also, the naming convention used, while quirky and interesting, did impede my navigation of the unit. That said, I love the sounds and look forward to learning the device better.

A wonderful time to make music. So many beautiful options.

Great video! 😊 Thanks for showing a true unboxing. You’re right, a lot of these kinds of videos make me feel terrible because the person CLEARLY has had practice with it, and I’m like, 🤣SO…. Thanks for being a real one!

great video! I find it funny they still haven't made the fader piece fit on the fader yet.

Thanks for this. I'm going to get one for my daughter so that she can make the soundtrack for the new Dark Ages.

Yeah but do the buttons smell of chocolate? It’s the only metric I care about when buying music gear.

Appreciate the honest video! Mine arrived Wednesday night, and damn, the initial learning curve is steep if you haven't used anything like this before. At first I found the naming conventions on it hilarious, but when trying to work with it, like you, it became annoying. I still keep the TE website open when I'm messing around with it, there's so much hidden in features. That all said, I'm still pretty stoked on it.

Hey man just to let you know, im pretty sure YT gave me your video because my phone saw me comment on twitter that this thing looked neat. Idk anything about making music or anything like that but it was neat to watch your review and to learn what a musician looks for in that type of stuff. Great review, even for an outsider.

As a HEMA practitioner who knows nothing about making music, I need this

4:28. Take those two batteries and put them in your smoke detector bro 😎 😂. Sims
Sounds like it’s almost dead. Haha. Nah good video though. Nah like you said all other videos show people using the Medieval who’ve had weeks with it. Nice to see someone using it and learning on the fly.

What other edition do you think they might make in the future? People were expecting other popular pocket operators in this new form factor but we basically got a reskin of K.O.2. If they’re doing another sampler again then it’s any theme really. I happen to like the medieval theme so picked one up, I dig it. Definitely one of the coolest samplers I’ve seen, aesthetically, and a great idea for a product overall by TE.

I think the medieval them is funny. I think TE got inspired to do this theme because of all the outdoor in nature lofi beat maker videos 😂😂😂 there is always someone out in the forest near a brook tapping away on pads 😂 so I think its hilarious.

subscribed for the realness on the limits thing. i like giving myself limits so i can stay focused on creating, such as only allowing myself to pick from five snare samples or synth patches so i dont spend hours clicking thru sounds and not making anything. what i dont like is companies not including basic features, such as the op-1 not having an undo button, and then fanboys and gear youtubers distract from those majors flaws by saying “its fine, limits inspire creativity”. i can decide my own limits, i dont wanna be told a box i paid hundreds of dollars for has “limits” someone else decided will help my creativity

Just got mine and spent like 15 minutes figuring out how to erase. Is a lot of fun, but it is definitely not ableton like I’m used to. Excited to conquer this device tho

Thanks for the demo and your thoughts. Do you think it will be doable to get into the device and the workflow after spending enough time, if one has no knowledge about other samplers so far? Or which sampler would you recommend instead?

Wait, what? I’ve been watching your skate videos for years and I never knew you made music.

Hey, can you please tell me the material of the product, is it plastic or metal?

Just got one and it is not that hard to get this thing going. The quick guide is worthless but the online one is pretty clear, they should have included it in the box. It is a fun machine and I don't think this is a meme, you can make good stuff with it.

Your pictures in the background are hung crooked, drives me crazy. But one question, I cannot find anything about this. Is this devices waterproof?

Oh great, just what the world needs, hiphop and trap beats with samples from the dark ages. *stabbing ears with a fork*
