The Survivor by Kurt Saxon Volumes 1-5 REVIEW

I hadn't heard of Kurt Saxon's The Survivor until I stumbled upon this 5 volume set in a used book store. It's a veritable encyclopedia of survivalism and self-sufficiency information including photos and diagrams.

In fact it is literally an encyclopedia since a considerable amount of each book is comprised of 1800's encyclopedia reprints. There's also a ton of pictures, lots of how to's, some strange stories and rants by the author and it's fun to flip the big pages.

While I think this set was a cool find it was upsetting to learn that the same propaganda being spewed now was peddled in the 1970's too. Same messages and same stories, almost to the word. There's threat of nuclear attack, climate change, economic depression, civil unrest, peak oil, terrorism, and on, and on.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the same fear mongering that's going on today was in that vintage magazine. Hardcore fear mongering of the highest degree was right there staring me in the face on the vintage printed paper. What's the connection between 1970's fear mongering and today's? Do I even want to know?

Seeing this, as well as other "information" I've come across, I now have to question every piece of information that I've "learned" and be equally critical of what I process henceforth.

Since I have a solid library of survival guides and manuals I decided to pass this cool find on to the rightful owner. I sold it to a woman who gave it to her elderly mother for a birthday present. I haven't hear back from her yet but if I do I'll post the update here.

I was a subscriber to The Survivor series when I was a teenager, I also had the pmjb and weaponeer and also the pmjb on vhs. Unfortunately I no longer have any of them now.

I concur that climate change is happening but probably not global warming. The results are the same except man isn't saddled with guilt and taxes. Thanks for weighing in. I especially like when people disagree and have great points.

I remember the Poor Mans James Bond also written by Kurt Saxon.It had a course called Super Ju Jitsu . I used it once to fighy a bully
in high school and got myself out of headlock
and the bully wound up on thre floor with a
bloody nose and all the students applauded.
He never bullied anybody again. There were
lots of spy stuff in that book. I lost the book
over the years. It was very informative and
entertaining.
