How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

In other words, if you’re broke (money), look at how you’re spending your time. We all let day after day, month after month, year after year, pass us by while wasting away our time. Most will say how productive they are but they’re really not. How do you know? How much of that time did they turn to money?

Successful people like Alex, are making the most of their time and it’s manifested by the money they’re making. It’s easy to lie to ourself and others when talking about our time. Want to know how much we really value our time? Look at your bank account.

It’s a hard truth that I definitely fall short of, but I appreciate Alex sharing his wisdom and pointing it out so we can make changes to improve.

How does he come up with these deep insights anyway? Does he meditate in the mountains? 😂

As I’ve grown more and more wealthy (and older) I’ve realized how unimportant it actually is. It will never fulfill you, and as you hang out with richer and richer people you will still feel poor because someone is always richer than you. Learn to love how you spend your time. Focus on family, your health, and serving others. Those I’ve found provide the best return on your time, not chasing dollars.

but no, thing is. the more depressed I get, the more sleep I need, from 6 it's gone up to 12, and as things continue to not go my way (layoffs, job scarcity) I continue to get more and more paralyzed during the day, so no, the time you get each day really depends. if you have time/energy, use it, if you're doing well, do better / it's possible to be in such a bad position that a maximum amount of effort might barely be enough so leverage what you have.

I find this kind of self micromanaging tedious and draining of all meaning but that's probably why I haven't made the big bucks yet.

I actually disagree with Alex here.
As you get wealthier, your time has less and less to do with your income and more so the VALUE you create.

Jeff Bezos could go on holiday for 2 years and still be rich at because of the VALUE he’s created

Kind of a silly mindset IMO. Its not like everybody has something they can do that makes them money at any hour throughout the day. If youre working a 9-5 then only those hours are worth whatever wage youre getting paid. All other hours are worth nothing and can be spent as you wish.

Even if you own a business and make say 10k per month its not as simple as dividing 10k by 720 hours. Not every hour has the same amount of payoff. You could be done with everything you can possibly do to grow your business in say 5 hours and all the rest theres litterally nothing else to do so they are free hours you can spend guilt free doing something else. i dont buy Alex's sentiment that evrry hour is worth X amount of time u less you have made it to the point of having unlimited work to do. Which would be kind of sad anyway
