Eating the middle of the apple is the craziest thing he did

I had a college professor who talked a lot about how we know what we know -- epistemology. He said that the lens through which you view the world influences 1) the data you pay attention to 2) the abstractions you use to organize that data 3) the language you use and 4) the ways you test your theories. So I think this demonstration really gets at that idea, that he's really setting it up like he's going to make a point about questioning your assumptions but then he really makes you understand how you have to question ALL your assumptions. Such a simple and profound demo.

Odd. My hypothesis was that he was going to explain why a candle flame is yellow and iced water is blue.
In the experiment, he proved that he eats freshly extinguished apple cores and dismisses the premise of the experiment altogether.

He might as well have said, "I hope you questioned your hypothesis that the cup was actually a cup and not cake".

"Turned out to be an apple with the core taken out." WRONG. It was just the apple core.

My takeaways: Question everything. Things are not always as they appear. Perceptions vary from person to person. If you really need light and you have no candles, light an apple.

The hypothesis is the teacher is naming things correctly, and telling the truth about what is around him.

Before the video started, Bill looked like Abraham Lincoln

I think the hypothesis here is: "human perception of things is based on association of color and shape with already known objects", but until we test them, we cannot be sure if they really are, what we think they are.
I would further the experiment by putting a thermometer into the glass with ice and the reading would be, let's say 40°C, then taken out "ice cubes", which would in reality be blue tinted glass cubes.

I thought he was going to take the blue glass and cup it over the flame to make it seem

He ate the candle instead

Blue is the hottest color.

Water is clear, no matter how cold.

this is exactly how science works, such a good representation

Bill Nye tells his wife that she is the apple of his eye.

Her reply is, "Show me the peer-reviewed data, Bill, 'cause I really don't trust your methodology, guy."

Wait, what was the hypothesis? He talked about colors we associate with temperature, the blue color is cold, and the yellow is warm. The fact that it is an apple and not a candle doesn't make the flame less real.

the core is the worst part to eat, this man is a savage

1. Dont believe everything you hear.

2. Dont believe everything you see.

3. He didn't lie, its not an "ordinary wax candle" its an unordinary apple core candle.

This means so much more about paying attention to what we think we know, making assumptions based on facts versus what we heard. Which tells me you can believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see. Always ask questions.
