Incredible Coin Spill - I've Set My New Record!

Watch my biggest coin spill so far. I run relatively often right into small spots with many coins, but this was something else. I had to stop detecting after coin # 497! There is still more to recover.

2 and 5 Pfennig - 303 coins
1 Pfennig - 194 coins

497 coins in total!
Weight: 1,32 Kg / 2lb 14.2oz

Wow! I have been metal detecting starting in 1974 and have never found a spill like that! I was stationed in Mannheim, Germany for a year in1973. That was a great find, but like you, after a while, I think I would get tired and quit and come back later . Great find and I hope you find better tresure in the future!

Vielen, vielen Dank für Deine nette und sehr ausführliche Antwort. Grundsätzlich kann ich unterstreichen, dass sich oft die grosse Recherche nach Hohlwegen etc. nicht auszahlt. An besagten Stellen habe ich oft wenig bis nichts gefunden; wohingegen ich meine besten Funde an Orten hatte, an denen ich nie damit gerechnet hätte. Nur finde ich in Wäldern nicht annähernd so viel wie Du. Daher meine Frage nach den Stadtwäldern. Ist aber sicher einfach davon abhängig, in welcher Gegend man lebt. Ich wünsch Dir weiterhin viel Spaß und Erfolg! Viele Grüße!

But, what were they? New clad coins? Wheats? Inquiring minds would like to know. Update: 5/7/18 I found at 1:08:35 where the kid showed the coins. Sure glad I didn't sit through over an hour of him poking around. Video could have been edited down to 2 or 3 minutes. Besides, the coins don't have any real value or collectable interest. Now, had they been wheat cents, I'd have been thrilled!

Probably a poor German parachutist landed very hard here. The extra weight in small coin could have made all the difference!

I've had two massive coin spills. The 1st was 5 years ago. 104 nickels. They dated from 1947 to the 1960's. Then last year I found 63 coins. 1 nickel, 4 mercs, 32 wheaties, the rest were zinc pennies.
