When To Build our Community/Tribe

Community building is hard work. I get that. Finding our tribe and then feeding it every day of every week takes a lot of time, commitment and personal risk. And it can take a year or more to find and build up your community of practice around your calling or vocation. A year of hard work with not a lot received in return sometimes.

The most common thing I hear from people actively working on their vocation is that they "don't have time to do that right now." I totally get this. Often this is because the person is deep in the weeds of finding their path, building their skills or working on their craft. But be wary if this sounds like you. You may be missing an amazing opportunity on multiple fronts.

As people approach launching something into the world, this is when they start to realize just how powerful a community or tribe would be. Beyond the support and encouragement it gives us while fighting our way to launch, it is an invaluable resource in helping us get the word out about our book, course, video or other offering. We are surrounded by people who are overjoyed to help us in this moment they have watched us approaching for so long.

I am often approached by people who have not built a community. They locked themselves away in their house or studio and fought the demons every day for years and years. I admire these people. I truly do. They have emerged victorious and clutching their creation, only there is no one there to listen or support them. There is little available to them short of throwing money at advertising or starting the long journey of building a tribe.

There is so much more to a community than just getting the word out. Something magical happens when you open up and find those on a similar path as you and who are joyously willing to share their journey and learnings back with you. This is when you have found a community of practice. And I can say that there is no single greater force in the world than a loving and supportive community of practice.

Finally, the people we surround ourselves with GREATLY impact our ability to take action and follow our hearts. Building a community around you that resonate with what is in your heart and soul is one of the most powerful ways to take the leap and build a life of meaning.
