What Do Physicists Do?

What do physicists do? In answering the question of what physicists study, we have to first answer the question what is physics? We also can talk about what makes physics different from other fields such as chemistry and biology, despite their similar methodology.

I like to see this as a hierarchy. If you study the details of biology, you get chemistry. If you study the details of chemistry, you get physics. If you study the details of physics, you get what? Pure math?

In the other direction, what science tries to aggregate biology? Philosophy? And then, is it religion?

Of course, this is a little of a stretch, but it also relates to the principle of emergence (a term from philosophy).

How do photons have no mass when they have a wave function and a particle like property also? When they ‘act’ like a particle like we see in the double slit experiment, they still have no mass? (Obviously they don’t or they wouldn’t travel at c, etc, but how can it have 0 mass? What is it ‘made’ of?

Simple answer : Physicists are scientists in physics. They research, give new theory, facts, solutions etc. Scientists in physics are called physical scientist or physicist . Physicist is a clear word to understand a scientist's subject in which he is researching.

There is nothing 'simple' about understanding the fundamentals of this universe. 😐 A major component of new physics is coming up with theories, the emphasis of the difficulty of coming up with these theories is not really explained here.... than in itself requires a tremendous amount of effort.
