Just a note for everyone: do NOT poke around with anything metal the way the author does in this video UNLESS you are ABSOLUTELY sure that the cells are dead at 0 Volt. These cells can put out serious current in normal use and are absolutely good at welding a metal tool stuck when still good (even when low in voltage).
Also, you really might want to invest in some cardboard insulating rings for the positive terminal side of the cells. It's VERY easy to melt through the heat shrinkwrap around the cell and when that happens you've got a very hard to stop short circuit on your hands. And trust me: even spotwelding heats up a piece of nickel strip good enough to compromise the insulation (nope, it did not result in a short, but I had to insulate the location afterwards to prevent it from ever going short).

Don't forget to write the new capacity onto the battery.

Nicely done. Intelligent, and clearly stated facts

Saw the way you held the knife, was about to comment! At last, when I saw you finger, I was like "told ya!"

Make a note of where the positive connection is made on the old cells. It's just as easy to assemble the pack with all the cells reversed and destroy them all when charging (and possibly the power tool)

Bro, can you put again the link of those 18650 cells? I tried to join into the link and the page wasn't found.

Does the bms care if you replace the batteries at a higher amp rating?

Samsung 30Q are also great, they are 15A on datasheets (LG HG2 are 20A) but they handle 20A better than LG HG2 and are a bit cheaper

I believe the reason they are low capacity is because they deliver high current, changing to high capacity might cause them to overheat and cause fire....or worse explosion.

Exclennt, thanks !
I'll see about soing this to a few unresponsive batteries I have (drill, and electric vehicle)
Keep on trucking ! (from France)

Did you try waking up the old 18650 batteries before you bought new ones?

the bosch cisco batterys dont have a protecion. They only have a balancing circuit inside. The drill stops the discharging. I distroyed one by using my ts100 with it.

Hi there, I have an electronic drum module that works at 18v, 0.5A (9va). I would like to know if I remove the bosh batteries and use it on the module it will work without damage. Thanks a lot in advance!

Did you see the short at 2:49? You made one of the cells spark!

Can you not just add the new cells in parallel ??
I am planning to just add the extra cells to the existing cells in parallel. Can't find a video, is it possible ??

Hey, I have a quick question. Is there any reason to solder these in place? My idea is to make it so that the individual batteries can be swapped like in flashlights, wouldn't that be really convenient? Great video!

So the protection circuit for the batteries is inside the tools???

What does the temperature sensor do? I left a Bosch 36v battery in the sun and now it doesn’t work.
