Well, the coaches in this set are nothing to write home about, but that Black Five certainly is! The blend of iconic design, excellent detail and a very capable motor make the Black Five a must for any model railway enthusiast. End of.

All other video, sound effects, graphics and photographs are my own.

When i was on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway the train was pulled by a Black 5.
Greetings from a train-fan from Norway.

The partially is due to the locomotive, the Black 5s did handle the Thames-Forth Express/The Waverley, but only as alternative backup. Usually the service was handled by a Jubilee, a Patriot, or a Royal Scot. Sometimes a Coronation/Duchess would do it. Same scenario goes to the Thames-Clyde Express.

LMS coaches with red ends exist (not exactly a news flash :P )

A couple of questions about the loco: Is there a provision for a front coupler? Are the drivers and valve gear metal or plastic? Do all wheels pick up power? Thanks.

they serve very little actual funciton, if any. But it's just a nice touch I suppose. For collectors, at one end of the scale they're a MUST. For people that just like running trains, they're not as essential - just welcome.

I believe the "Not entirely representative" refers to both the unblacked ends and the fact that it's just two basic compartment coaches and a brake coach, whereas the real train would've had stuff like a luggage van and some sort of dining coach and probably a mail coach or two.

I have my eyes on a particular Black 5 The one I want is in NWR green with red lining and named Henry. Not sure if I'm going to just get the Hornby Henry and move the top sand-feed hatch forward, or buy one that already has the top-feed forward and repaint it. Probably the former though.
