Me and my husband married each other with our feet in our favorite river. This was our wedding song. We couldn’t really dance in the water so we held each other and swayed while this played. Best day of my life.

I've always loved the watery piano they used for this song. Such melancholy and passion co-mingled...ahhhh....good times and sad times all rolled into one bittersweet jumble. Step on the gas and wipe that tear away.

My brother Bill Farley was the engineer on this track, he recorded the first two albums in Regent Sound Studios, 4 Denmark Street, London, WC2. Regent was a very basic little studio, but as you can hear Bill got a great sound. Best Wishes, John Farley.

Loved Them, just leaving school around this time, 1965. Those first two LPs were something else.

Man, this is one beautiful cover of John Lee Hooker's original from 1964. Morrison puts SO much feeling into John Lee's song and the band is absolutely perfect with its delicate touch. Only have one grouse. In Hooker's song the lyrics are " and live on for the future"  In Them's cover the lyrics are "and live on IN the future." Maybe a small thing for many but it completely changes things for me. THERE IS NO FUTURE, it only exists in the mind. It is not concrete, otherwise tell me what will happen a month from now. Or better still, tell me what will happen five minutes from now. The future does not exist, nor the past for that matter. They are only figments of the mind and the mind is the big problem for all of us. So when Morrison sings "live on in the future" it is meaningless. Better would have been " live on in the PRESENT"  Then it would have hit the bull's-eye. Anyway, this is a great song.

This song is an absolute pearl and a real diamond from the band's debut album '(The Angry Young) Them' in 1965...!

If I remember correctly, this was the "B" side to Gloria on the 45 rpm release in the US, and it has always been one of my favorite songs by Van Morrison, who to me is one of the most soulful, heartfelt singers of all times. Thankfully, Van is still entertaining us today.

Though not a massive Van Morrison freak, I am of the opinion that this and It's All Over Baby Blue, their versions, were just about the best songs on the planet in 1965. In the then top 10 or 15 for sure.
