Episode 2 of our Because it’s Mercedes-Benz series brings our hosts Becky Evans and Elly Wong to the most essential place when it comes to making Mercedes-Benz vehicles as safe as possible – the Crash Test Centre in Sindelfingen.

This 55,000 square meter giant out of concrete and steel accommodates 900 crash tests and 1,700 sled tests every year which shows how important safety research and development is taken at Mercedes-Benz.

Becky and Elly meet up with the Mercedes-Benz experts to learn more about the history of safety testing and how a Mercedes-Benz is constructed to improve passenger safety inside. Next up they get to see up close, how an EQE SUV is prepared for a frontal crash and how much data is collected to gain the necessary insights.

Before they get to experience the crash test, Becky and Elly meet the real stars of the facility – the Crash Test Dummys. More than 100 of these highly sophisticated machines are constantly maintained at the test centre, waiting for their next mission.

Getting a peek into the BTS of crash testing was fascinating! (And thank you for even letting us crash a car ourselves!) Can’t wait for the next adventure😊

During the Rishabh Pant accident the strength of the Mercedes' body played a major role in saving his life. Brilliant build quality

Might be safe in a crash, but it doesn't protect me from having a heart attack trying to keep up with the maintenance costs 😂

Dear Mercedes, please keep EQ models around and have a seperate normla EV line, we promise, sales will go up if you keep EQ and it will be harmful to your company if you take away EQ. Eq Technology is a horrible tag to add to the end of your cars.

No, the worst is if you get a defected car and have to bring it to the shop every couple weeks before you even crash.

I was rear-ended on the highway in my first EQE at around 90-100kph. Looking back, I was extremely lucky to sit in this car.
The occupant of the rear car was in very bad shape unfortunately, but I could walk out of the car without any scratches. You're not only buying a Mercedes, you're buying passiv safety as-well. After that experience I soon got my second EQE and feel very well protected in this car and grateful for all the engineering involved in making these cars safe!
