Gorgons: The Petrifying Sisters of Legend

Показать описание
In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were three fearsome sisters named Stheno, Euryale, and the most famous, Medusa, known for their hair of living, venomous snakes and a gaze that could turn anyone to stone. Unlike her immortal sisters, Medusa was mortal and famously slain by the hero Perseus, who beheaded her with the help of gifts from the gods, including a reflective shield and winged sandals. The Gorgons were often described as embodiments of female rage and protectors of certain sacred spaces; their terrifying appearance was meant to ward off the profane. Medusa's head, even after her death, retained its petrifying power and was used by Perseus as a weapon before being given to Athena, who placed it on her shield.

It’s very confusing when you alternate between using “she” and “he” in reference to the same character. You did it several times when referring to the eldest Gorgon sister

The nerve of Athena, and poseidon is a r apist. Seems like women or feminine energies have been abused, and demonized even in pantheons. I want to fight Athena and Poseidon for Medusa.

There are different stories of Medusa, The oldest one she was born a gorgon, Athena didn't need to change her, then later on the story was she seduced Posiden, it wasn't until the most recent version did they say she was Grape by Poseidon and curse by Athena.

One version I read stated that Athena's curse on Medusa was also meant to protect her from the unwanted advances of men; since her gaze could turn men into stone, the gods were no exception, and if she would ever encounter Poseidon again, even he would suffer that fate.

It's a pity she died before she could turn him into stone for what he had done to her.

1:38 according to who? Because I have yet to see the source for this Priestess" thing

According to the greek writers Hesiod and Apollodorus Medusa was a gorgon since birth and had a *consensual* relationship with Poseidon in a field of flowers

Athena was very cruel to Medusa if I'm not mistaken he had to cruise the Styx river to get to Medusa's temple

So, the chauvinistic view of accusing a victim as guilty had started in ancient greek. It also gave way to the wrong notion that we are above the law in the throes of power
