This doesn’t tell you HOW to find the area. In this example the HOW is division. What you used was recollection which isn’t the universal HOW. There are people that don’t have the multiplication tables memorized.

When given the area and a side, divide the area by the side.

3*x = 21
x = 21/3
x = 7
