Nothing is certain but laundry, taxes, and the Everything Everywhere All at Once Movies with Mikey episode. Michelle Yeoh forever, y'all. 👁

Hello! We are Mikey and Teara and we run Filmjoy. We love to watch TV and movies and talk about why they’re art. We occasionally play some games too. We are now a Nebula First channel, check out our latest video before it hits YouTube

Movies with Mikey is a positive look at film criticism through the eyes of someone who loves movies to an unhealthy degree.

Another pretty big comeback that you kinda have to know, is Harry Shum Jr. The guy being puppeted by racaccoony. He was one of the "main cast" of glee. But he's Asian, so he gets put in the background for basically the whole run of that awful show with the minimum amount of lines. Just the guy who dances. And in this movie, he gets voice lines. Gets to be the center of a really memorable and hilarious section lampooning a disney movie with a bad puppet. And you watch it. And you're really, really hoping Michelle Yeoh gets that guy to that puppet. This movie did so many things and I just really like that little bit of hollywood redemption. Michelle Yeoh agrees to be in the first almost entirely Asian movie since the 70s. Four years later, on the other side of a world altering pandemic, we get a movie about accepting your queer kids. Caring about your family. Bringing Ke Huy Quan back to a place where I think he'll bring something special to the screen. James Hong gets to be the face of grandparents accepting their queer kids and a tiny bit of catharsis for those who won't ever get that in real life. Stephanie Hsu gets to be a terrifying, badass, butt kicking antagonist and also represents every queer, non-white, non-movie star perfect kid out there who is just mad at the world and their parents for not accepting them. I cried in the theater. Not a few tears. Something ugly came out of my chest and I had to choke it down so I wouldn't miss two rocks sliding towards each other beautifully. With no context, I tell people this movie is a close relative to Love, Simon. If they know, they know. If they get it, they really get it. This is one of the most important movies in the whole world to me.

Waymond's "kindness is how I fight" speech is just... everything. It's everything.
This movie broke me and put me back together.

I've watched this movie a few times and I just sob through the entire final third every time, it's just so ferociously optimistic in the face of crushing odds and after the last two years that Does Some Shit to me.

The Daniels, even in the early days of their music videos and short films, have this knack of taking what seems at first like a silly idea and running with it full force until it actually becomes a profound expression of some true human emotion. Great stuff.

While they were rocks, Joy said "I was hoping you would see something I didn't... that you would convince me there was another way". Her mistake was that she'd been asking the wrong parent

"Beware the nihilism bagle" is the perfect thing for a t-shirt, right about now.

I can say so much about this movie so 1 thing that I love is that the movie spends a lot of time showing us bizarre, weird things and then spends the last 30 minutes making us cry about those exact things. Raccaconnie, the sausage finger multiverse, all of it is all silly but it doesn't mean we shouldn't care about it or it means nothing

It's incredible that they made this film for $25M. It looks like it cost three times that.

"You can be anything you want to be as long as you're exactly who I decided you would be." Hot damn, Mikey, you really put that one into words. Beautiful video about an incredible film!

This was my favorite movie in decades, and I'm still trying to understand why. There is just so much to unpack in this film.

I am honestly just floored by this movie’s achievement. This was the real Multiverse of Madness

I don't think its possible to have a more complicated story with such a unique vision and limited budget and stick the landing harder. Its the best movie ever made to this point in history.

I don't think there's another movie out there that makes me feel the things this movie does with each consecutive viewing. In 3 months I've seen it at least 6 times (which is more than I've seen most films) and it still excites me, floors me and moves me in the exact same way if not even more. I don't understand how this film exists but i'll be forever grateful that it does.

My dad and I saw this in theatres and were just blown away. It led to a really deep talk between us about life and our outlooks, and a nice amount of respect arose from that. Trust, too. There hasn't been a lot of positivity for us in the last couple years and he opened up. That proved to me just how profound this movie is.

I saw this in your videos a few months ago, and deliberately avoided anything about it until I saw it.

I finally saw it two days before Oscars. And I’ve been obsessed.

Thanks, Mikey. Your first Oscar essay.

Okay, when a single clip of Waymond explaining his philosophy can reduce me to tears, this movie officially counts as CHEATING.
