CANON R1 SPECS LEAKED!! Sorry, Sony :(

NOTE THESE SPECS COULD BE WRONG BUT I'M INCLINED TO BELIEVE THEM!!

Tony compares the new R1 specs to the current Canon R3, the Sony a9 III (with its global shutter), the Sony a1, and the Nikon Z9... and ultimately the Canon R1 brings some new capabilities that beat both Sony & Nikon!

Remember when 10 FPS was a big deal… Honestly, anything above 30 is more than I’d ever care about, and perhaps more trouble than it’s worth.

Adorama took this info from Canon Rumors, this info isn't official Canon Specs. That's why Adorama removed the info from their web page.

Like the guy in the highlighted comment said, I feel like this should be the R3 II instead of the R1. The R3 already is a fast stacked "low megapixel" camera, I feel like the R1 is basically the same, just improved. Was expecting the R1 to be a fast, high MP camera.

Sorry, Canon still doesn't offer us wildlife cameras. The R1 only has 24 megapixels, and the R5 MK II has a bending sensor, no GPS, and no cross-type AF. It's so hard to make an R1S with 45MP?

I would be surprised if these are the actual specs. These were leaked months ago and never confirmed.

These specs that Adorama posted are straight out of a canon rumors article back in Jan. 2024

Many times it really feels like the cameras aren’t designed for real world usage but rather for the pixel peeping spec sheet masturbators. So many of these new overhyped cameras on closer inspection for the real world are just incremental changes rather than real steps forward. Maybe we’ve gone as far as the technology we now have will go and we really need something other than the cards and sensors we now have

Can't say how happy I have been shooting the Sony A1 since the day it came out. I don't feel like I will be at a disadvantage at all with my 3+ year old camera.

The camera was not imported from a different more advanced planet, but for an Earth-built camera that needs to have a competitive price and generate enough earnings to pay for the R&D and the development of the next camera in the next 3 to 4 years, it looks fantastic. On paper is competitive or better than the equivalent cameras.

R3 pre-release? I can't find that option on mine and I have the most current firmware. I'd love to know more.

About ending the fps war: 120fps definitely has its uses, both in some sports and for shooting birds in flight. I don't do sports, but for BiF I'd certainly give up resolution for the 120fps, if I could afford an A9 III as my 2nd camera (I'm just a hobbyist). Also for BiF more than sports, it matters if you can shoot 120fps raw, or just jpeg.
Canon also needs to fix their pre-release feature. The way they implemented it so far, makes it about as useless as the burst mode. You need to be able to fine-tune the time captured before pressing the shutter and more importantly, you need to be able to keep shooting if you want to follow the subject. OM and Sony got it right. Having to deal with that special file with all the pre-release shots in it, instead of just getting normal raws also doesn't help.

The best part of this video was that there was no mention of video stuff. Thanks, Tony!

The majority of those complaining about this body don’t even shoot “D” bodies in the first place…this is a very NICHE market that this body caters to…NOT meant for MUDBLOODS. 😊

Ok, can a properly exposed 5dmk4 photo be as good as a print from this new camera?

it’s interesting to see everyone not be excited for the R1 but i work as a science and weapons test photographer and we’re looking at upgrading from nikon D6s and 120fps stills without loosing time for the mirror to flip is going to be amazing for our use case, although it’s a very specialized high speed use like you said.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a great cameras for sports, wildlife, etc, not worried about flash speed. Hope its available to purchase this year. I've shot with the Z8 and Z9, see no issue with the electronic shutter.

I think the biggest takeaway from this sensor is going to be able to use contrast lines that not only go vertically, but also Horizontally and diagonally. That's going to be a game changer by itself. HDR is neither here or there. The R3 already has some incredible HDR so it'll have to be ARRI levels of DR in order to be impressive. Being able to expose a flame, AND the surrounding area... that would be impressive.

You do realize that the R5 frame rate drops when the tiny battery is below 60 percent and in a number of other circumstances listed in the owners manual. As a wildlife photographer, you think that's acceptable? Along with second rate autofocus compared to the R3 or R5?

I like how Canon will give you high burst rates at lower mpx. Wish Sony did that, sometimes I don't want a ton of full res .jpg or raw files.

R1 with these specs is a great competition against A9iii, not the A1 or Z9, it should have been called R3ii.
No wildlife or landscape photographer would want to have 30mpx instead of 45+mpx if they could help it.
This was supposed to the jack of all trades and master of everything, specs like these doesnt live up to this description.
At this rate the R5ii will look more like a flagship instead of the R1
Thats where the problem lies
