Resisting Gravity: Magnetic Race 🏁 #shorts #lenzlaw #DrTatiana

Показать описание
When a magnetic ring falls along a metallic (but nonmagnetic) tube, eddy currents are generated in the tube, creating a force that slows the ring down. This is a manifestation of Lenz's law of electromagnetic induction. The slowing force is strongest for a copper tube, which has the highest conductivity and therefore generates the strongest current.

This was presented by Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova from Texas A&M University @tamu. This demo setup was designed by our students.

Very interesting and concise set-up to demonstrate lenz's law! Might have to duplicate it for my own classroom

She needs a TV show! I l learned so much physics from Prof Julius Sumner Miller in the 60s and 70s - he was also a great character and very passionate- ‘Why is it so?!’

Fun fact: silver -and gold- are more conductive but are too expensive to use at a large scale. That's why we use copper in wires for electricity

Edit: Gold has lower conductivity than copper

Mam... Even my physics teacher cant explain this much clearly.. You made me to understand this just within fraction of seconds.. Love your lectures❤❤.. Thank you mam🎉.. All the best for your upcoming teaching journeys✨❤

LoL when she says "nothing... Boring" 😂😂😂 so funny!!! I wish here in Argentina we have a teacher like her

I figured out that copper has very high conductivity as a child. All it took was some carpet and the copper column that acted as a supportive structure for the local library (which is a very poor idea might I add!). I could not feel my hand and fingers for a whole day.... ⚡

I swear this lady reminds me of the science teacher I had during my freshman year of high school. Super high energy & made me genuinely interested in science (particularly physics & geology).

Maybe I should go back to school for this...

When she said aluminum, did anyone else sing "Doo doo de doo doo" 😂 ❤ her energy! All teachers should be like this, imagine how excited young minds would be to learn!

Waking up saying I love science, excellent. Coming to class and getting students hyped, perfect! Saying let's stick my talents on YouTube, GENIUS!!! ❤❤❤

I suppose they would make one of the corner ones gold, if it wasn't so absudly expensive
