The second singer, Avi Kaplan, is the original bass of the group. He has a great solo career now.

This song was my introduction to Pentatonix, during the dark days of the pandemic lockdown when I was searching for entertainment. And boy, did I find it. I’m so glad you’re enjoying PTX and that the music is helping you weather some trying times. Check out Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King for another dose of hope. Loved your reaction. My “favorite” singer and song changes, depending on what I’ve heard most recently. And yep, it’s always Kirstie and it’s always Mitch. Peace …

Mitch, the countertenor in the hat, is my absolute favorite singer in the group and you just got “Mitch slapped.”
The drums are from the beatboxer, Kevin, who also plays the cello.

The bass is the second soloist ( beard and beanie) Avi Kaplan, he left the group in 2017 for personal reasons. He now has a solo career that is Amazing! Change on the Rise is his most popular. And his latest album is the Shooter Jennings produced Floating on a Dream. You might enjoy The Live from Sunset Sound version of When I'm a Fool. Subscribing in hope of some Avi reactions.

Mitchs solo is like out of body experience (7.37) 💫

Scott ( first singer) is the baritone but he takes over the bass when Avi/ Kevin sing. Kirsten is a mezzo soprano (can go really high). Mitch is a contra tenor ( can also go really high) and Kevin, the guy who swallowed a drum kit is a tenor. They all have wicked vocal ranges.😂😊❤

The only member of the band who left was Avi - bass here. The girl Kirstin and the guy Mitch with the hat here, they often change their appearance so that some think they're different people.

You were just Mitch-slapped, my friend.

oh, and did I mention they have 3 grammys? and they just recently received a star of fame on Hollywood Blvd! (and Kevin is a beatboxer who does all of the percussion!!)

The heavy drumming sounds that you're hearing are from Kevin, the beatboxer, and he's executing it through both beatboxing and body percussion (stomping, clapping, patting, etc.)

Avi Kaplan, with the beard and beanie, is a little lower than a regular bass so they call him a basso profundo. He does regularly does an A1 in chest voice while a C2 (3 semitones higher) is the standard for a regular bass. He does have classical training, so he is focused on a smooth bass tone and fairly high volume even on those low notes rather than that coarser bass sound you sometimes hear.
Yep, no drums, just Kevin Olusola. He's doing vocal percussion, body slap percussion and some foot stomping. On some songs such as Daft Punk, Avi will do some percussion style bass notes to help out, much like a hard pluck on a bass guitar or synth bass drum with a long sustain. So you'll often see Avi and Kevin as more of a standard rhythm section when the song has more demanding percussion.

If you’re “going through something “ the best remedy would be to play more Pentatonix. Can’t be depressed too long listening to them. Try listening to “Imagine”. Also Queen, Bohemians Rhapsody.

Its hard to pick a favorite with PTX, because their voices are all so different and each is special! That's what makes this group the best! Yes, this song can soothe your soul. I've been going through a rough patch in my life, and Avi Kaplan's solo work has been incredibly helpful. I highly recommend you check out his work.

Either "group" or "band" is correct - they describe themselves both ways.

In "Sound of Silence" (filmed just over two years after this) Kirstin's hair was her natural color of dark brown or black and in this one it's blonde. Sometimes I think Kirstin changes hair color on a daily basis. She and Mitch (the second soloist in "Sound of Silence" and the guy with the broad brimmed hat in this video) are both chameleons. With Kirstin it's hair color, some enhancements she's had done to her lips, and a change in her figure - she was just 19 when the band started in 2011 and she is now 30 and the mother of a 9 month old baby so her figure is much more mature. With Mitch it's hair color (dark brown or black, blond, purple...), hair style (he had a shaved head for a while), variations in facial hair, and frequent changes in weight. With these two, don't go on looks - their voices don't lie. Always wait until you hear them sing.

The guy who sang the second verse in "Hallelujah" is Avi Kaplan, their original bass. He left Pentatonix not quite a year after they filmed this, for personal reasons, and was replaced by Matt Sallee, the black guy in the white jacket in "Sound of Silence." Avi is the only person to have left Pentatonix, and Matt is the only new member of the group. All other rumors are caused by people seeing Mitch or Kirstin and thinking it's someone else.

The only black guy in this video is Kevin Olusola, their beatboxer. And yes, he's doing ALL of the percussion. How? I haven't the foggiest; I don't know how to beatbox. I just know that Kevin is one of the best.

" Let's see if they can nail it" before listening to one of the best renditions of this song EVER. ❤. So many songs down this rabbit hole.

Mitch and Kirstie are chameleons. They seem to change their appearance each video.
