This is wonderful to hear. I got a bad lesson on stoicism a long time ago, but this is such a great take on the whole philosophy. So many people struggle in life for the simple fact that they cannot control what they think they can or should.

I met someone today that had a very rough time, and this is what I told him to focus on 👍

I've never been this calm since starting listening/reading about stoicism and it is infectious. I can drop all the non sense anymore and go on with my life.

"Up to fate, " whether you believe it or not, is the simple fact of accepting that there are things that are not within my control.

In a way, this is liberating.

I have learned over the years that I don't have to deal with other people's anything. I do what I need to do and not bothered with anything else.

I’ve tried to make this my guiding principle since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s a couple years ago. It’s incurable and progressive with potential for a nasty end game (no control). It’s easy to get lost in that. But there are things you can do that can ease the symptoms and maybe slow the progression like exercise, diet and a good doctor (controllable). Focus on those things. Stoicism generally has been a great tool the worse the situation, the more helpful it can be.

So very true, control what is in your court, great reminder to focus on our reactions and actions. Thanks for your great content, a true inspiration. From WA.

Thank you. I really need to practice this. I keep walking into a wall.

Willingness to take full responsibility. I like this, 'dichotomy of control' another way of saying it.

The more I hear about this. The more I realize all of the great historical figures that’s meant something to me have been practicing some form of stoicism. 😅 even when I got sober the big book of AA has so many of the key concepts woven within.

You can influence other’s opinions so theres some control there. From how you behave in a job interview to how you talk to someone you like to how politicians talk, everyone is "influencing" on some level

@DailyStoic
Avoid ruining this advice
Prepend "immediate" to control.
You can drive yourself nuts thinking you can spend several years at something and eventually, gain control. In the meantime you can beat yourself up over it.

That's cool, But if you don't like rain, you could always move to Arizona. So in that respect you could control the weather. Lol

What's with activism? Activism tries to change something, but that's not up to an idividual but to the majority.
How can one look at changes a whole society should go through by a stoic point of view?
