This is a great example of how continental shift over millions of years actually works

Thank god this chasm didn't appear in a populated area. My thoughts are for you Turkey, and for you Syria.

There's a place in Tucson Arizona up against the Sata Catalina mountains where there are about a dozen or so custom homes scattered in and around these huge barn size boulders. The houses were built to fit between these large rocks making them unique and intriguing. Looking forward one sees the Tucson valley down below and when looking back one sees a rock cliff. In 1912 there's and article in the Tucson Citizen newspaper with a picture of chunks of rock breaking off the cliffs about where these houses are no located. The earthquake was in the 5.0 range so not very strong. These home owners are in for a big surprise if there's ever another quake of moderate intensity. Knowing this, there's no way I would live in one of those houses. I learned all of this on a geology field trip. Lol

When we compare old maps to those that are up-to-date, we can better understand how earthquakes change the landscapes.

Wow, created another Grand Canyon, we are witnessing the world in a time of transformation. Love, light and prayers to all who are suffering because of the many trans formations our world and the universe are going through. Please love one another, kindness matters.

This is just overwhelming to see such damage to the land. We see buildings being destroyed in many earthquakes, but this leaves me speechless. Pray for the people who have lived here and loss so much.

Maybe there is a silver lining to all this tragedy if archeologists and paleontologists can find anything interesting in the newly-exposed strata.

This is like in the movies where the earth actually opens up during an earthquake, but usually doesn't happen in real life. Glad no one was standing there when the ground decided to split

Wiw... that is some serious land movement.
When one realizes that there sea creature shells on top of Mt. Everest... it really makes one pause. This Earth is a very busy place.

Similar phenomena happened in the Loma Prieta earthquake in California, 1989. In the Santa Cruz mountains, the epicenter, the earth rose up and bulged to where it cracked open in vissures like a squashed grape. I assume this might be another area where the ground expanded like that, not just as if a flat area split open horizontilly.

That quake moved the whole tectonic plate 10 feet It's a miracle the whole land wasn't made like that rift

Crazy and hard to deal with what has happened so fast

I’d like to see a longer video on it with earth scientists to discuss the layers.

Accdg to earthquake expert Dutchsinse, this chasm in Turkey prevented the earthquake to continue on its "course" of destruction in other neighboring countries.

That's how the grand canyon was created, not by water. By continental shifts!
