Thank you for the stories. Funny, I just watched an episode on Fox Nation yesterday that recounted this story but they didn’t go into detail using Carson’s own words. Great book on Kit is “Blood and Thunder” by Hampton Sides.

0:12 jicarilla is pronounced Hicarilla friend, being a son of the southwest I always love hear folks pronounce words with the J instead of the H. Or people say ocotillo instead of ocotiyo, or Gila instead of Hila. But great video!!!

The Apache were notoriously horrible to their own women, to say nothing of hostages.

Yeah, that was a tragedy that could have been avoided. They should have waited until early dawn to attack, or attack immediately. Parlaying with hostile apaches was a pretty stupid maneuver.
