I want to thank you for this. I recently picked up a used network device and the published defaults would not work. Additionally, the "Reset" button would not reset it to the published default IP of 192.168.0.254. Because it is older it is no longer supported by the manufacturer. I followed this and was able to get that the IP was 192.168.101.70 !!!! Logged in with default credentials and now I can assign a static IP. I was also able to confirm the device actually does more than have some LED's lit.

So to those who say just do a reset, that is not always a viable solution.
Just because something doesn't align with your own narrow world view does not mean it is useless.

This is a very helpful video and is enjoyable to watch as well.

Thank you so much. I had a Swann POE camera that I bought used on Amazon (risky I know) that had an unknown static ip address. I had never understood wireshark but I'm glad I do now because I was able to see that the camera was making calls and not just a dud
