CarPlay is 1000x better. I have a car with CarPlay and a Tesla and everything with music/navigation is 1000x worse in the Tesla. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Tesla's system is horrible. Has tiny buttons you can't see while driving, while CarPlay actually considers that you might not be able to direct all of your attention to the screen and has massive buttons.

i like and dislike carplay tbh. while the interface is definitely smoothern and more polished on the tesla touchscreen, i wish it had 3rd party app support, for, say, Waze or even rideshare & delivery apps. and while siri is honestly pretty bad, i wish voice controls on the tesla were more reliable and full-featured so you could do more without looking away. in general i agree that they shouldn’t use carplay since the UI would be a bit more fragmented. but they should really focus on the fundamentals above everything else. i mean, it’s a bit crazy that it literally got a fully playable steam client before uber, lyft, waze, doordash, y’know- the things that people actually use while they’re driving 😭

Yeah the Tesla infotainment system is slow, laggy, fails to load, has errors, and the voice commands aren’t as intuitive. Not to mention the messaging system in the car sucks as well.

Android auto and Apple carplay exist as a way to extend your phone to a screen in the car. The Tesla interface does not do that in the slightest and is really disjointed, if i want to play local music files off my phone i have Bluetooth and a usb stick with tesla where as android auto/carplay require none of that and give me a full interface of apps set up already to work with me And It allows me me to do something like start navigation on my phone from a text message and just pop up on the head unit

But they should. Locking it down is always bad for the consumer. No waze support means you need another device sitting on your dash for waze and/or your radar software
