Why tempered glass sometimes break, sometimes not? #shorts

Why didn't the glass shatter when kicked by a horse, but broke after falling to the ground? On the contrary, this piece of glass remained intact after falling to the ground, but shattered when hit with a hammer. The reason for this phenomenon is actually related to the characteristics of tempered glass. Tempered glass has excellent impact resistance; a large-area impact like being kicked by a horse will only cause it to deform, However, when the external stress is concentrated in a small area, such as when the glass hits a small stone after falling, the tempered glass will break into pieces

For those asking, the horse is the builder who the client refused to pay for his work.

The correct question is why was there a horse?

For everyone who's curious why the horse kicked the glass, horses are very terrified in urban environments. All of the glass reflections scare them. He probably saw a reflection and thought it was another horse. He kicked it because it was showing aggressive displays (obviously. Because it was himself.)

For everyone asking for context about the horse clip at the beginning!
The horse is actually from Florida, was on PCP and saw his reflection. He mistook it for his twin brother, who he’s on bad terms with, and the rest is in the video.
From what I read, the horse was never actually caught.

It's a good half-explination... because that glass is also laminated glass. Tempered glass alone doesnt shatter if certain chemicals are added. Pyrex and other cookware will crack into big pieces.

Laminated glass has a soft layer between 2 hard layers so it acts like reinforced concrete. The flexible layer holds the hard layers together to prevent cracking and allow more flexing. A concentrated force, like the corner of the hammer will damage the hard layer immediately, before the glass has time to flex. Once either of the hard layers has any tiny crack, cascade failure cuses the whole thing to shatter.

This is also called "safety glass" because these tiny pieces are usually cubes or trapezoidal. The angle of the edge is usually 80° to 90° which isn't very sharp and the weight is and inertia of the glass becomes a tiny fraction of the original weight. 100lbs of glass broken with a 7° angle can slice your head off. Change the angle to "coffee table corner" 90° and it only hurts if it hits bone... except it's in a million pieces so 100÷1, 000, 000= .00001? Or whatever. It's not heavy enough to impact into the bone. A light scratch is the worst possible outcome as long as you don't swallow it 😂

The interesting thing was why did horse kick the glass

It also breaks in such a way that the pieces don’t have razor sharp edges like regular glass. It’s an important safety measure, especially for vehicles and buildings. 😃

Yes! I work for a company that manufacturers insulated glass window units. I work in quality control and get to do the tempering tests and it's so cool what glass can withstand.

The guy standing on the glass pane reminds me of our 4-point bender for heat soak tested glass. It can bend soooo far!

It's funny, I can tell you that the 2nd laminated CNC staricase siding wasn't tempered enough. The pieces are too big and would fail a weight test. We had a job with 5 mil lami that someone accidentally broke and we discovered the whole order wasn't tempered enough. It looked just like that.

Wow I didn't realize how much of a nerd for glass I had become 😅

One of my classmates punched a chromebook screen with full force, no damage. A calculator was thrown at the screen, it went through multiple layers of the screen.

The horse case happened in Brazil, and it is speculated that the reason for the horse's kicks was that it was stressed by the bell tied to its neck.
