Quick tip if you need your activation key, click the "Email Support" button in the settings menu. The data it copies to your clipboard includes your license key.

Me: Sweet I won't have to use remote desktop anymore. Me 5 minutes later: Oh well.

Thankyou heaps, I have struggled over the last year to get remote management to work. Watched and read plenty but the one thing no one else mentions is to tick remote management in the user window. Sweet!

I believe updating to later software has it's perks but you do not need to do all of this to have versatility. I'm still on version 4. With network skills or help from a network savy friend, you can do what I have done. I have created a network tunnel out of my network to manage my Blue Iris through any PC (Work etc) I do use app on my phone for viewing and some basic features. For camera specific settings that I cannot change via the app, I have a secure path directly to the cameras on my network. There, you can remotely administrate any settings you need to. I often zoom, reboot cameras, change night/day etc. You can also save templates for camera settings and enable them when needed. I just bought Blue Iris 4 last year and I don't think I'm ready to purchase it again for $70.00 ! Great Video for those who upgrade.

We'll, I just set up webserver in version four. Then I can use the web browser to access version four server.

Then I just reverse proxy the webservice address to my domain.

I think that the hardware slowness you are experiencing is probably more about network then hardware.

Remote Management sounded great until the 2nd license thing came up. I think it is worth noting that Google has recently updated their Remote Desktop to be far more efficient and less resource hungry. If you have not tried it since they changed it, it is well worth giving it a shot.

I've been using a 2nd instance of BI + VPN for 5 years, Always great to see this software evolve.

The remote management feature in Ver 5 is directed toward people with many installations. A much need feature. People complain about the small cost of stable software with good support after installing thousands of dollars of cameras, switches and cabling. I use a dedicated BI server which interacts with Homeseer for triggers and alerts. Very stable. I have plenty of other stuff to work on .

If you are monitoring use their web gui or android app. Both are awesome! If you want control and recording then buy an extra license. Looking at this I am almost thinking the remote option is for having multiple Blue Iris servers. Example, I had my custom built duel AMD opteron server tank after three years of running blue iris. I used an old laptop motherboard with a quad core intel i7. It ran at like 47% with a number of cameras. In short the storage wasnt easy to setup and I would have had to hack the bios to get it to auto power on after a power failure. Anyway, I chose to pickup an old Dell r410 I think it was with four drive bays. Yes it uses a little bit more power but it is super reliable, was cheap, and I dropped in a 256gb SSD as a read/write cache so blue iris doesnt jack up the onboard hard drive in motion sensing mode. In theory I could run 64 cameras on a number of these servers and just switch between them. It would be awesome.

I just run VNC and it works fine and video streaming fast when switching. My server is in a server rack, but I have a client in my bedroom beside my bed with VNC.

Just went to upgrade and I have to buy a support plan to allow my ver 4 license to work with ver 5. So now it is 2 licenses you have to buy, one for upgrading and one for the second computer.

Great video, very helpful. Can you use an LE license to remote access a Full Version server?

If you ever look into a synergy solution I'd highly recommend mouse without borders. It is a free tool provided through Microsoft's "Microsoft Garage" offerings. Mouse without borders is free (as of writing this) and has a lot of the same functionality minus the cross platform support.

Have you ever explored using the web interface instead?

Any chance you could make a video about setting up Wyze cam in BI? Keep making great content.

Figured you had to buy a new lic. I'm sure they will change that tho. Funny you bring up Synergy. I have the same setup you talked about, and I just thought of that idea today.
