Thanks for a nice hamfest walkabout. The season ended here in September.
There was a receiver, either an AX- or SX-190 on one of the tables. They date back to the short-lived merger between Allied Radio and Radio Shack in 1971. What makes them unique is that this had a more sensitive front end than most receivers of the time. The AX was the ham band plus CB version and the SX was the SWL plus CB version.
If you do get your license, the TS-2000 is a really good value because you have everything in one box. The disadvantage is that when it goes brain dead after 20 years like mine did you lose four radios.
When Kenwood radios go brain-dead they just display little dots and nothing else. Every Kenwood radio made since the TS-430 will go brain dead. I've lost my 2000, two 940s, and one 440 to the dreaded dots!

Mower Junkie, you should get your ham license, with what have seen I doubt you would have no problems passing your Tech as well as your General on the same day! I took my tech back in 2010 6 months after I had a full blown stroke. At that time there was a 6 year old girl who was the last in her family to get her tech license. She passed with 100% was the first one done. 2 years later my buddy and I went to upgrade to general. I hope you make I got into CB radios in 1976. So been round for a while. 73. ✌

Very nice i went to a couple hamfests in Ontario Canada locally here and it is almost like an unwritten rule for alot of these hams once they have thier ticket it is like the cb equipment is a poison to them and has to go no matter how cheap lol good for guys like you and me i guess 😀 73's WR520
