Cole Mattox launched North Tabor Capital when he was a junior in high school. Now, Maddox is 18 and headed to University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business undergraduate program in the fall. He can’t specify exactly who his clients are or how much they invested for legal and privacy reasons, but he says he has more than one and fewer than five clients in his hedge fund. He has over six figures in assets under management.

When I saw the Bitcoin pillow, I want to assume he rode up the bubble in 2017 and made a lot of money. Now he's a "pro" lol

Lots of red flags here:
-6 figures in AUM
-Seed investment from "family friend"
-Does not do it as a full time job
-No discussion of returns

This is the very definition of a "garage band hedge fund", and nobody serious about having their money managed would go anywhere near this!

He probably just buys ETFs and charges management fees to his family 🤣🤣

I would not invest with anyone that has a Bitcoin pillow. That's just me...

I'm not impressed. Hedge Fund manager is just a label that makes him sound smart. He only has 4 clients which consist of family friends. I'm sure they invested about 10 grand each, more or less. His returns were not even mentioned and that Bitcoin pillow leads me to believe he is more of a hype rider than an educated, experienced investor.

Saying an 18-year-old in high school knows more about finance than a lot of people on Wall Street is the most laughable thing I have ever heard. I can almost guarantee that that virtually any first-year analyst at a reputable investment bank knows leaps and bounds more than this kid does. He might know more than the vast majority of kids his age, but not more than an investment banker.

What are your returns kid? I dont give a shot if you own a new car dealership at 12. What are your returns. It's all about alpha.

Got to give him credit.... He started this fund so that he can go to Wharton... at the end of the day that's all that matters to him at 17.

Why are all these comments so hateful? Let the poor guy live his life! He is still young and already doing more than any of us who are just sitting behind computer screens watching YouTube

For all the hate this kid is getting, I think it should be said that it's great that he has an idea of what he wants to do and has an interest he's actively pursuing. Also he's going to Wharton which is really impressive and where he can work on his skills. He might not be a Hedgefund manager yet but he's on track to getting there soon, if he keeps pushing.

He's 17-- do you know what most successful managers were doing at this age? This. Of course he isnt a great manger right now, but he is putting tools together ( an education at Wharton, Sales & Marketing skills, intellectual curiosity around financial topics, building trust and relationships, a level of risk indicative of early success--even if we all know he'll take his fair share of losses, exposure to bubbles, repitition etc. ) that will serve him well in the long run.
