Seeing this hurts so much more after we see how the reignited their love in Season 7. They were finally getting in a better place and then George died. And lets not forget how she broke in the funeral, "I'm mad at myself for not trying when he was still here"

She knew he wasn't a perfect husband and that she wasn't the perfect wife, but the fact that they still tried after being apart for the whole summer and reigniting their love they had in their youth, especially when Meemaw said how she tried to make him go for Mary's friend only to still choose her

They maybe didn't have a perfect marriage, but they did care about each other, and still tried. Couples argue, and don't get along at times. But when you truly love and care for someone, you two still stick to it and continue no matter how hard it gets. Marriage is hard, and so is a Divorce; they chose their marriage and still pursued

Thank god this is what Sheldon’s awful descriptions of George from the Big Bang theory got reduced to. In that show Sheldon describes his dad as a cheating verbally abusive alcoholic. Here they show yeah he did drink (not even close to alcoholic levels) yeah he did have somewhat of a relationship with Brenda (not even close to actively cheating on Mary) and yeah sometimes he wasn’t the nicest (most of the times he’s not nice he’s usually provoked first and more often than not he’s justified)

I honestly don't think that Mary helped with the baby because we see that in the whole episode, Mandy was trying to calm her down and how Mandy was tired. Mary only helped once and kept using the baby as an excuse
