This is realistic. Living under the same roof means we are well aware of each others problems.
We have our own issues and it can feel like it's some sort of competition.
We stop communicating to avoid fights.
We fight because we don't communicate clearly.
We assume or project.
Finding comfort in someone outside the home, emotional, physical, mental. We can imagine they don't have flaws or problems as we aren't exposed to it.
Relationships take work.
It takes a mindset to remember what it was about each others personalities we love.
How is the present situation a reflection of those traits.

You see, in a healthy relationship, the moment he answered "I wouldn't." is where the argument should have ended. I feel like there's a lot of suspicion about men being unfaithful, and because of that, women often take any sign as a sign of cheating. Regardless of what it's actually pointing to.
