What is the meaning of Ash Wednesday?

As the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday marks the day in which we remember our mortality. We are dust and we are sinners. We recognize that all the we have, including our bodies, is a gift given only for a lifetime. Knowing that communion with God is the ultimate goal, we repent of our sinfulness and turn to God during the 40 days of preparation for the celebration of Easter Sunday.

Somehow, if a topic is presented via a "movie, " my CCD students pay more attention than they would to me or my co-teacher just telling them something. (Also, there's no chalkboard in our classroom, so no ability to do "chalk talks" as you did in this video.) I'll probably use this with my 5th & 6th graders this week!
