Xbox Could Have Kept Bungie:
“At the time they had big ambitions. They had sold their business for a certain amount of money. They saw what Halo turned into. And it’s like, ‘OK, Microsoft benefited more than Bungie did from the success of Halo.’ There’s no other story that can be written there.”

He continued, referencing Bungie’s next big hit, the sci-fi shooter, Destiny: “If you’re saying, ‘Hey, I think I’ve got another one of those in me. I want to really take another chance,’ I can understand the allure of doing that as an independent company.”

When asked if he thought the split from Microsoft was inevitable, or if the tech giant could have held on to them, he responded: “Could we do it today? I think we could.”

During a recent GQ profile, the Xbox boss revealed that Microsoft is pushing him to line up his successor.

“Clearly, as somebody who has been here for 33 years, I have more years behind me than ahead of me,” he told GQ. “But the longevity of this team, the sustainability of this team, there’s nothing that’s more important to me right now than that.”

Commenting specifically on succession, Spencer added: “You should do it when you think about the long-term health of the team. To make sure the team is in a good place. That the culture of the company is in a good place. And that we’re making the right decisions on who to bet on. That has got to outlive me.”

According to Xbox Wire, the event will run through December 21. The demos at the event aren't typical game demos as most people see them. In Xbox's traditional demo channel on platforms like the Xbox Live storefront, the demos that are hosted there represent the final version of the games after they've nearly been completed. However, the demos at the Winter Game Fest are very early demos, similar to ones you'd see at a video game convention or trade show.

These demos will only be available for a limited time, although some might be re-published later. The full list of demos will be announced soon as the date nears December 7, but here are some of the highlights already announced:

Play Halo Infinite for $1

Handheld Xbox!
According to a Windows Central report, Microsoft has spent a considerable amount of time "dabbling" in Xbox-focused handheld console prototypes. This bit of insight comes amid news out of Razer and Qualcomm Technologies about a new Snapdragon-powered handheld device, the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. During a recent summit to reveal the technology, Razer and Qualcomm specifically mentioned Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Gaming as services that would function well on the device.

For the last several years, Nintendo has remained uncontested in the handheld space, with Sony, in particular, ceding ground after the PlayStation Vita failed to move the needle in terms of sales. The Switch's incredible success led many to believe PlayStation would rejoin the fight, but Sony's interest in dedicated gaming hardware now seems focused only on home consoles and virtual reality units. Valve recently threw its hat in the ring by announcing the Steam Deck this past summer, a Switch-like platform that will exclusively play games running on Steam. The Steam Deck's delay to February 2022 ensures the wait for a high-end handheld will persist for a little while longer.

An Xbox handheld would be fantastic! Unlike PS Vita, it wouldn't even need dedicated games for it. It just needs to be an extension of the existing Xbox world. Let it download and run Game Pass games, do Play Anywhere...make it an Xbox version of the Steam Deck essentially. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

The xbox series s is extremely small and is extremely powerful at a budget price point. If microsoft can do something like chop down the size by a lot, which will lead to a decrease in preformanse, add a screen and a controller, this might not need xcloud to function.

It's a good idea to create an Xbox portable console, you could add a game pass there, a backwards compatible USB flash drive connector so you can run games through it

If Bungie worked on Halo again it would be another halo 4 and 5 fiasco. Almost 99% of the guys who work at bungie are new people who weren’t even born when halo was a thing. What I’m saying is. Is that all the bungie guys who worked on halo are most likely not in bungie anymore. Many of them left and split off to make their own companies or joined 343.

I have a iPhone 13 pro max and using game pass does not take up a lot of battery like he is claiming. But he does have a point about the internet connection problem a lot of time I want to play game pass games on my phone but I don’t have good internet connection. And that is a big problem that keeps me from using game pass more often.

Series S at its current size can do 1080p at 60fps. Now, if you were to decrease the size and power down, you might be able to create a small device that might just be able to do 720p at 50 to 60fps.

I wish I could have a Series X, sadly in Ontario Canada it's been impossible to find one since it launched. I refuse to play Infinite until I get one which by the look of things still won't be possible until 2023, it's very frustrating.

Cloud gaming does not mean portable gaming to me in order to have a good time with cloud gaming you would need a very good internet connection so that means you would be confined to your home 5g is probably gonna be good enough to cloud stream but 5g also is not in a state where most people can access that. I think a dedicated handheld that can run its own games is what we are limited to right now I do think it would be cool if play station and Xbox released something that could run at around the power level of a PS4 or Xbox one though it would probably be slightly less powerful and run games at like 720p instead of the 1080p that most consoles targeted

I recently took a risk and bought a Nintendo Switch, with no great expectations. To my surprise, despite the game's graphics being inferior, I practically abandoned my Xbox One X. I immediately started dreaming about a portable Xbox. In my dreams, interesting things appeared: a hybrid console from Microsoft could have a powerful and exclusive graphics chip for portable mode and a dock to connect to the TV, but unlike the Nintendo Switch, this dock would not just be a connection Hub, on Xbox hybrid the dock would have a powerful graphics card, suddenly even make an SLI in addition to the graphics chip of the portable. So we could have a hybrid console in dock mode even more powerful than the Xbox Series X, who knows a good name Xbox Series Pro? I also dreamed that Microsoft bought Nintendo and I was playing Mario on my Xbox Series Pro... but then I woke up 😭
