Expert Insights: Can a Scorpion Sting Kill You?

If you live in Arizona, you might worry if scorpion stings are deadly. Medical toxicologist Anne-Michelle Ruha, MD, explains who is most at risk, what symptoms can occur from scorpion envenomation and what to do if you are stung by scorpion.  

Dr. Ruha is a professor of internal medicine and emergency medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Her expertise is treating people with bad side effects caused by medications or drug overdoses, as well as snake bites and scorpion stings.

Well I got stung by 3 and my heart rate was 190 almost went into cardiac arrest. They were babies stuck my hand into a pool skimmer and they jumped on my arm and stung me barley made it to the hospital my face went numb don’t believe what everyone tells ya. Lol just saying from experience

🤔 I got stung by a scorpion yesterday morning on my Achilles heel I stepped on it barefoot in my house I live in Texas.. I have the electric shocks then I noticed😮... Ive only been stung by the texas stripped barked scorpion it was painful it got me in the face by my nose but I've had some dangerous species of scorpion

A bark scorpion 🦂 just stung me on the middle of my right hand ✋ at midnight its 1AM now.... going to sleep it off 💤 😴 I feel pain its like a burning feeling on my right hand feels a little numb from my hand to my bicep also I could feel the venom going up my arm veins or maybe that was my blood getting thick because of venom 🤔 🤪 my palm is hot 🔥 but thats it (I'm 26 years old) not the first time getting stung third time 😑. Going to sleep 💤

I've just got a sting by one as mentioned on this video right on the palm of my left hand, it was about 11:00pm, now it's dawn 3:50am and I've woke up because of the unberable pain, (comparable only as the pain of a needle injected and left there). Right in the early morning I'll seek medical attention, hope I survive😔. 58yo

And the medical suggestion if you get stung from a doctor is... wait for it... Benadryl 😅 Really... fcking 2023 and benadryl is all you have... or tens of thousands of dollars antivenin. Here I'll help everyone out because I'm not giving medical advice just a nobody who may or may not actually know something useful. If hypothetically it were me I'd get some magnesium sulfate ointment and a blow dryer. I'm not kidding... I'd put it on and heat it up for a couple minutes. The logic is as follows the ointment helps dry out the skin reducing further leakage of venom and with the heat it destroys the venom proteins. The ointment also helps with the sulphur it contains in protecting nerves via ionic exchange. I've used it with bark scorpion stings and it works great your welcome for the information 👍
